cuba resort wear

I have never vacationed in Cuba but I hear it very nice if you love the beach. What resorts would you recommend and is topless common. I understand its not "legal" but I also heard it's not uncommon. Your info is appreciated.

russel,

unfortunately for you, Cuba isn't really topless. I would say that maybe 1 out of 100 women maybe topless and even then only on the beach while sunning. I have never seen anyone actually get up and walk into the water from their chair without replacing their top. I don't think your wife would be arrested but I also don't think it is appreciated.

Russel - check out the Melia chain of resorts and in particular, the Melia Rio de Oro in Guardalavaca area just outside of Holguin. This is a 5 star resort with a beautiful stretch of private beach (about 600 metres). With it being a little more private then say Varadero Beach, a little toplessness won't necessarily offend or get you arrested.

Rio De Oro would be my choice too!!

Russel: rio de is cool about 40% when we were there but I heard that was unusual. It's more and more accepted in cuba. I like to hear others experiences.

Good luck

Try Cayo Largo - beuatiful island -
Cuban Government turns a blind eye!!
Topless is the norm in fact one resort I believe it is called the Capricho is au natural.
Not much to do on the island but the beaches and the water is spectacular

Russel, we hate to add anything negative to your Cuba vacation but you should be aware. We were there in Dec.99 and thought we stayed at one of the better resorts, Beaches, not!. Granted the resort was in transition into part of the Sandals chain but was not completed. So point one, do your homework into resorts. Two, topless was the order of the day at that resort, beach or pool it didn't matter. Three, the sand fleas were very bad they even made up to the pool area. Bring bug spray. Cuba is very impoverished, but historic. The weather was good. We dove and did some tours so email us if you like.

Russel: I am going to Sol club rio de mares in Feb. I too have a similar questions on the amount of topless at the pool and more important the beach.
More info would help.

Thanks

Hola Sandi. I just came form de Mares in Dec. & had a wonderful time. I hope you do too. We were there for a week & hung out by both the pool & the beach & not once did we see anyone topless. Now I don't know whether that was because it wasn't allowed or because no one there was daring enough. I've heard it's acceptable in Cuba, but maybe someone else could give you more info.
Let me know how your trip goes. When are you going?
Anya

I think you will find that it takes one or two brave women to start the topless ball rolling, and if they are not there then it will not happen. Some people in life are leaders and some are followers.

Since many europeans visit Cuba, topless bathing is very common in Cuba. I have never seen anyone asked to put their top back on in Cuba, or any Caribbean island, so it is safe to say, it is okay.

Just returned from Cuba 3 hours ago.

At the Rio De Luna/ Mares lots of topless bathing and no staring and no hassles.
