Cuba or Dominican Republic

We have been lucky enough to travel to many Caribbean Islands and are hoping to go away for our 20th Anniversary. Would Cuba or Dominican Republic fit the bill?? This time we are looking for terrific beaches at a great price and probably an all - inclusive. We do not need alot to do but do like water activities and romantic settings. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Karen

If you are an American it's illegal to go to Cuba now..wish it weren't, but I'd heartedly recommend the Dominican Republic.. go to....http://www.debbiesdominicantravel.com./
We are returning this year to a resort that has all your looking for as most are all inclusive..Catalonia and last year the Casa del Mar.. We do have pictures of the Casa del Mar if your interested please write..

You'll love Cuba. I am planning my 3rd and 4th trips there. I go legally but have no compunctions whatsoever about going illegally. It's a stupid, inane, 40 year old law to punish Castro but has only punished the people. The people there are sweet, kind, wonderful; it's safe there and they really want Americans there. You can go through Cancun or Canada. You'll love it. Each year 60,000 Americans enter illegally--they won't stamp your passport so there is no record of your being there. It's a lovely country with lovely people. I can't wait to return.

Parrot Mom:
I am interested in seeing your pictures. Please email me with them, I really appreciate it. I am interested in the Bavaro Beach resort or the Melia tropical. How are the beaches there? Are they crystal clear and clean? How is the crime? Thanks so much!

I'm from the u.s., and I would like to travel to cuba thru canada. However, my husband is completely against it. He enjoys meeting and speaking with the local people and he thinks once they learn we are american, they will not like us. How are we too be sure they enjoy americans? What about the Elian tragedy? Do they hold a grudge? The thought of traveling to a country that may not want or like us is a little scary. any advise would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Hi Jennifer, Cubans don't dislike Americans, they dislike many Cuban-Americans and Castro. They dislike Cuban-Americans because of their superior attitude and Castro because of the situation they are in. I went there with my wife and 5-year-old son and had an incredible time. We stayed in Havana at the Golden Tulip Parque Centrale which was first class. I live in the Caribbean, so wasn't interested in the beaches so much. Another alternative is to fly through Jamaica with Air Jamaica.

I stayed at the Paradise Beach resort on Puerto Plata on the northern part of the Dominican Republic. It is an all inclusive resort with a beautiful beach. However, the electricity kept going out and their generator did not always kick in. Evidently they have a problem as I haave heard of this before. I would not go back just for this reason alone. And management didn't seem to care about my inconvenience.

Hi Karen. I'm not sure where you are from but I am from Canada and am considering flying out of Winnipeg MB to Varadero. There is an all inclusive called Breezes Jibacoa and I have read the reviews and it sounds great. I have used this charter airline before and they have very new planes,(www.canada3000.ca) the only problem is they only fly out on Wednesdays. The price in Canadian dollars with taxes start at $2590 depending when you go. If you are from the US, that is about $1800 for airfare and a great resort. If you want to check it out go to www.sunholidays.ca and click on rest of Canada and then winnipeg.
Have fun!!!
