Cruise Stop - What to do?

We will be in Bonaire for a few hours on our cruise. What should we do? What beach is the best? How far from the port is it? Are there any resorts that allow you to use their beach if you have lunch?

Beaches aren't really the draw in Bonaire. It's the diving and snorkeling opportunities. I'd suggest you look into a snorkeling excursion if you aren't a diver.

Doug,
Did not know cruises stopped in Bonaire. Do you know where they stop, where the port is? We are staying at the Plaza - no offense to cruisers but, oh no, hope the ships don't dock there.

Bonaire is a new port for a lot of cruise ships this year. It's never been a big port (some of the luxury lines occasionally stop there). I actually have some writers investigating where the ships dock, but it may be a while before I actually have that information. Unlike Curacao and Aruba, I don't think Bonaire has a deepwater port, and I can't imagine they government would let anyone dredge to create one because it would destroy the coral. So I suspect ships will tender passengers, but I can't imagine it will be right in Kralendijk. If I find out more, I'll let you know.

Doug,
Thank you.

We have seen a cruise ship docked when we were there. The dock is right in the middle of town. You won't know its there, unless you are in town for dinner.

Sorry marlong, I did not answer your question. I would definately recommend snorkeling if you are not a diver. The snorkeling is wonderful. There is also great windsurfing on the other side of the island. Not much else to do but look at beautiful fish (the only place we have seen seahorses too).

one of the most wonderful things to do in Bonaire is visit the salt flats and watch the wild flamingos. They are so beautiful.
If the cruise offers any bird watching excursions, seeing the flamingos is really a treat.
