cozumel or cancun???

If you had a choice, would you go to Cozumel or Cancun? They look pretty much alike as far as I can tell, but what I want to know is which is the preferred place to vacation?

We want an all inclusive resort (which, I believe, is more affordable) but not too, too, touristy. Is this possible at either place?

Any input would be appreciated. Specifics would be great!!!

I'd pick Coz! The snorkeling is better and you aren't facing a row of high rise hotels. Fewer people, quaint little shops. I think it's more relaxing in Coz. Cancun is like a party place. Too much going on and too many people doing it.

Cancun offers so many choices for travelers that it is very, very touristy. It certainly has better sandy beaches and more of a choice of hotels. However, you spend half your day chasing away timeshare reps. If you desire wide sand beaches,a party atmosphere, a large variety of clubs, , go to Cancun.
Cozumel is small and the hotels are more spread out, The beaches are more rocky, which is why the snorkeling is so fantastic there. There are still some great restaurants and a few clubs, but not the large number as you will find in Cancun.
Your choice depends on what you like. If you are a snorkeler, the choice is obvious. If not, then you have to weigh all the options. Good Luck!!

I've been to Cancun only once and have returned many times to Cozumel. I much prefer Cozumel. As previously mentioned, snorkeling is great, and it's much less touristy (although when cruise ships are in, San Miguel gets touristy). Cancun is much too crowded, touristy and constant partying for my likes. Cozumel has night life, but of a more "local" variety. We usually stay at Plaza Las Glorias within walking distance of town and we love to rent a car and go drive around the island and stop on the less visited "back side" of the island. Have always stayed at PLG, so don't have any all-inclusive recommendations. Have fun, wherever you go!

Mary
I would concur with the above. Cozumel is beautiful. We stayed at the Allegro resort am all inclusive and it was great, good food, entertainment, snorkeling and was quite reasonable.
Jennifer

Cozumel is my choice. Great scuba diving. The Allegro is tough to beat for an all inclusive. It is on the best beach in Cozumel. Two pools, three restaurants, had a great time.
