Coyaba resort in Mo Bay?

Hello,
My husband and I are going to Jamaica and are planning to stay at this resort. It's a small resort, 50 suites. We don't really want a huge resort with all the amenities. We've decided against all-inclusive, figusing we will probably spend a day in Negril and a day in Ocho Rios anyway, so we won't be around to eat and drink at the Resort all day.

Does anyone have any experience with this resort? How expensive is the food in Jamaica?

Thanks

Linda;

Ive never stayed there but I have toured the property and know others that have. It's a very well run modern property. The beach is very small as is the pool. They have a very nice beach bar and restaurant. The other restaurant is also very nice but more formal. The rooms are in 3 level buildings. Suggest you get an ocean view. Location is terrific as it is close but not to close to the airport and serveral other resorts which you may like to visit.

Linda, we have stayed at Coyaba 4 times out of the many times we have been to Jamaica. It is a very laid back resort. The owners live on property and it is very well cared for. The rooms are very nice, and the the staff is one of the best in Jamaica. They have Tea every afternoon, and entertainment at least three times a week at night. Their food is very good and their evening restaurant is highly rated. Any questions, just ask.

Ruth,
That sounds fantastic! A few questions--we have decided not to go all-inclusive. Are the restaurants nd drinks there very expensive and is it safe to take a shuttle or taxi to another hotel or restaurant downtown for dinner? I assumed during the day would be o.k., but wasn't sure about the evening. Is there any nightlife at all? We're not the party-hard type, but do enjoy listening to music. Also, we have an ocean view jr. suite reserved. I've heard it's literally steps from your balcony to the beach...is this true? And is the beach really that tiny?
Thanks!

Linda, If this is your first time to Jamaica I wouldn't go all-inclusive. Food and drinks are on the high side at most places, but you should try some of the restaurants. Two of our favorites are The Town House and Julia"s. They will pick you up at the hotel and bring you back for free. If you want your own taxi, they have drivers at the hotel. They have a tour desk in the lobby that is very helpful. We have been using the same driver for 10 years no matter where we stay. The hotel is three buildings three stories high (no elevators) they are all very close to the beach (which is not huge, but nice). Coyaba has it's own web site which is www.coyabaresortjamaica.com. It has all the information and lots of pictures on it. It is very accurate, and the pictures really show how it is. We are going back to Jamaica in October. We will staying at Wyndam this time because there is 22 of us all different ages going. If Gail is still working the front desk, ask her for some recomendations, she is very helpful. Audley is a great bartender and is one of our favs, too. When are you planning on going? Hope this helps.

Ruth
