Couples Negril or Couples Swept Away
Looking for some input on these two resorts. After reading tons of reviews I have no doubt each resort will be beautiful, however, both resorts lack any convincing photos of the ocean/beach from the rooms. I'd like some input on the resorts and would like to know how the oceanfront suites and ocean view rooms are at each.
Alson, any other advice on AI's similar to these two that I should look into would be appreciated as well. |
I don't stay at resorts, but did walk by Couples Swept Away when we were in Negril last fall. I'd stay there simply because it's on Seven Mile Beach, and you can walk for miles, stop for a drink, eat local food and enjoy the vibe of Negril.
The beach there is lovely, the loungers were well spaced, so it didn't seem crowded. Not a high rise, it appears to be small enough that you aren't walking for blocks to get to bars/restaurants/beach. I've never seen the other Couples property..... |
My husband and I tried to stay at both Swept Away (1st choice) and Couples Negril in March. Both were booked solid so we went to Iberostar Grand Rose Hall in Montego Bay instead. We loved it! The beach isn't as nice as Seven Mile Beach in Negril but it was nice enough and the resort, service and food made up for the less nice beach. We stayed in an ocean front room that was very nice and truly was ocean front. We had a large covered terrace with a ceiling fan and I spent a lot of time out there just enjoying the view.
The location also worked well for us as it's only about 20 minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from a great zip-lining adventure we went on. We also did the snorkel trip and even though it's supposed to be a protected reef and a national underwater park we didn't find the snorkeling to be very good. But the snorkeling trip was still really fun and we would do it again even though the snorkeling wasn't great. |
Also read over on Trip Advisor. There's a very helpful group of folks on the Negril forum there.

Look at Sunset at the Palms in Negril. The only possible negative is it's across the street from their desginated beach area, but It wouldn't be an issue for us.

Swept Away best there personally not a big fan of AIs personally
All basically the same with crowds good not great food tours etc RockHouse historic romantic great private vibe value cheaper for me in Negril Jagger Marley and Dylan stayed there good enough for them good enough for me do be aware that many of the "experts" on TripAdvertizer are agents owners scammers Posting biased advice and fake reviews discount the all positives almost always fake Go with the mixed reviews consider the negatives which are real on those. Happy Hunting! |
AIs have their place and can be a very relaxing place to stay since you don't worry about where to eat esp for islands where there isn't much around. Negril though has so many options outside the hotel it seems a waste to be confined to the hotel. We also tried to stay in an AI past March in Negril but they were all full so we ended up in a modest hotel further down the beach and ate out. Now we have been there we can see that was the better option for Negril. IMO there is no point in AI in this location. The beach at Swept Away is not as nice or private as further down the beach either.
