Couple needs help choosing caribbean destination for 4nt/5day vacation

My husband and I are planning to travel to the Caribbean in February for a quick 4 night / 5 day vacation and need help deciding which island is best for us.

Since we only have a short amount of time, we want the shortest flight w/o any transfers leaving from Boston. I've been advised to check out Puerto Rico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. Cost isn't really an issue.

We enjoy relaxing poolside w/ cocktails in the daytime and going out to party at night.

MUST HAVE:
-beautiful beaches
-nightlife
-shopping
-no kids!!!

Thank you in advance!

Of the islands on your list Puerto Rico will offer the best shopping (the largest shopping mall in the Caribbean is located in San Juan). You'll also find casinos, plenty of nightlife and some nice (but not spectacular) beaches. Of the three islands on your list, it comes the closest to meeting all your requirements. If cost is not an object check out the Ritz Carlton in San Juan.

You'll find better beaches on the Dominican Republic (check out the Punta Cana area), fairly active nightlife and some shopping in the city areas but most visitors don't leave their respective resorts very often except on guided tours. Again if cost is not a consideration consider Casa De Campo. Because of the price - your chances of encountering many familes with youg children at this resort are small.

Jamaica is similar to the Dominican Republic but it has somewhat better shopping if you stay in one of the main tourist meccas like Montego Bay.

Depending on when you go in February it may be difficult to avoid kids on any island as quite a lot of families go to the Caribbean during Winter/President's Week Break.

If you are looking for adults only All Inclusive resorts, you'll find plenty on both Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.

Here's a link to info. on Puerto Rico,http://www.gotopuertorico.com/

Old San Juan has great activities and events continually, try Escambron beach or the beach by the Condado Bridge. Enjoy, stay safe and the Lord bless you!

It is quite possible to avoid kids at the adult only AI resorts.

I am not a fan of the DR but very much enjoyed Couples Swept Away in Negril many times, as well as Grand Lido Negril. Royal Hideaway is anohter options.

While I enjoy San Juan, not sure how you can avoid kids as many of the hotels are larger properties that offer a lot for families.

I would also suggest you check out LeBlanc in Cancun. Kid free, high end and a good value. While Cancun itself is not my favorite spot, Le Blanc is highly regarded and the beaches there are awesome. Lots of evening options as well, more so than most islands.

The Caves in Jamaica...the ultimate getaway, but not a party atmosphere! Put Playa del Carmen on your list too. You should be able to get direct air to Cancun. Playa has several great resorts. Royal Hideaway, Royal Playa, Mosquito Beach, Ikel del Mar (now called the tides...very upscale. Playa is a great party town. There are so many different clubs and lounges. I loved it. Many of the hotels listed above are walking distance to the main town area.
