Coral Sands/The Cove

We spent the first week of April at the Coral Sands on Harbour Island. We can't say enough nice things about the island. The people & village are charming, the restaurants offer a nice variety and the beaches are lovely. The Coral Sands, however, was a disappointment. Our room was "motel" like and in need of some serious sprucing up. We read that the property had recently undergone some renovations so we were surprised at the poor quality of our room. If you choose to stay here, be sure to request a room in the new building, hopefully they are in better shape. Our travel agent requested and I confirmed via email with the manager a second floor oceanfront room. Upon check in we were given a ground level room that was adjacent to the path to the pool, bar and beach. Needless to say, this spot was a beehive of activity. We asked for a different room but they were unable to accommodate our confirmed reservation until well into our stay.
We were surprised to encounter many people who rent houses in town and just use the pool and beach facilities at the Coral Sands. We don't have children but this is something to think about if you do. Not sure if they allow this but one family indicated this is what they do year after year….
Upon check out, we decided to be honest and let them know the accommodations were disappointing (everything else was fantastic). The manager treated us in an extremely inhospitable manner. Unfortunately, it was apparent that the cosmetic & maintenance issues will exist for the next guests. They gave us a token discount that was of little consequence after we experienced the condescending and belligerant attitude of the manager.
We spent the remainder of our vacation at The Cove on Eleuthera. This was fabulous. The room was clean and quiet. The food was fantastic. We snorkeled and saw some great fish (angels, parrots, rays). The owners and employees were super hosts~we will definitely return the Cove. If you are looking for some R&R, you can't lose by staying at the Cove and visiting Harbour Island as a day trip!
