Conditions on St Thomas

My family enormously enjoyed Xmas 1996 in St. Thomas. In June of 1996, we sailed to the island on the Inspiration (Carnival). The island was still looking rather devastated after the storms. Trees were still bare, roofs covered with tarps, garbage EVERYWHERE! We were not at all impressed. However, when the opportunity arose to use a time-share condo at Bluebeard's Castle, we decided we would welcome the warm weather in December(we live in PA). The island seemed transformed!! It was lush, green, everyone was friendly and although everything was quite expensive (food, taxis, etc.) we certainly would not hesitate to go back again and would recommend it!! St. Thomas is definitely getting back on the tourist track!

I love St Thomas...but I love St John's more!
I stay at a privately owned home called "Tree
Tops"....elevation is great..overlooks Red Hook
Harbor in St Thomas...walk down the hill (5 mins)
and you jump on the Red Hook Harbor ferry that
takes you over to St John's for the day!

Great snorkeling at Trunk Bay in St John's. The
accomodations are way over priced there..that's
why I stay in Red Hook Harbor St Thomas!!

Tree Tops is about $90 a night for couple or
family. And it's one of the best kept secrets of
places to stay other than a Hotel w/a pool etc.

I wouldn't go out at night alone however. It can
get very seedy quickly.. Cabs are the way to go
to get to/from local restaurants. The Parrot Res
tauant is very good and has a unique atmosphere!

Enjoy!
