Concerned About Water/Air Temperature
I am working on planning our next vacation exchange for 2002 and am really having a difficult time determining when to stay away from some of the destinations I might request. In order to have the best chance of success in this exchange request, I want to be as flexible as possible. Right now my choices look like they will be: Grand Cayman, St. John, Bahamas, St. Thomas, St. Croix, and in Florida - Sanibel Island, CAptiva Island and Marcos Island. We have been going to Cayman since 1993 and have never found the water to be not warm enough. But, I have been told that it's quite different around some of the other Caribbean islands. It is important to us that it be warm (we dont' care if it's hot) and that the water be warm enough for comfortable swimming. I have been reading quite a bit of the information on this site and so far, think that St. Johns sounds like our best bet (aside from Cayman)as far as a good place to vacation. We like to go somewhere that has good beaches, is safe and clean. Good food is also important but a bustling nightlife is not. Since we are going without children, we would also prefer not to be surrounded with large groups of children. We do like to snorkle too. So, I guess that I'm asking for advise on not only good places but also what months to avoid. The more flexible we can be in our request, the greater the chances are that we'll get what we want. Thanks very much.

Have you considered Isla Mujeres?
It is a small Carribean Island abou ten
miles from Cancun. No problems with water temps there. Best times are from 11/20 through late spring. Safe, homey, very reasonable prices, great beaches with snorkeling and diving available. We have a home grown brouchure on the island that will be sent upon request. Ginny and dan

There must be some stats of temps-mid December no problem St.Lucia or Virgin Gorda or St. John, Have had good experience in mid March in Anguilla and Barbados. Water had to be in high 70's.

P.S. St. John in Cruz Bay has a good selection of restaurants, on Anguilla the restaurants are great, Barbados too!

Water temperature will be fine, and basically the same, anyplace in the caribbean. The bahamas are not in the caribbean aand sometimes can have quite cold water.

I am thinking of doing home exchanges myself. Who do you use, and would you recommend them?

Thanks, Charles

Charles,

We have a vacation timeshare through RCI whereby we own one week at a 5 Star Resort in Cabo San Lucas. We can also decide to exchange to stay at other places around the world that are part of RCI. Are you talking about a vacation timeshare or a "home exchange" where you don't buy a timeshare - you exchange your home with someone else for a vacation?
|
I'm actually talking about the latter - exchanging one's house in one place for someone elses house in a different place.
