Thanks tom42, very clear. And good laugh about the tank top and running shorts. As you very well know, NeoPatrick does not wear tank top and running shorts to any restaurant, so we're safe there!

I love it! I think the place looks great (with the disclaimer that I know absolutely nothing about Puerto Rico!).

Why now give it a try? No, to me it is not too city-like, but then I love staying in cities at the beach (Waikiki, Puerto Vallarta). And no, I would not miss a "resort pool" myself. I'd much rather have a small apartment building pool without a bunch of hub-bub going on.

How nice to see you in the Carib forum! That condo looks really nice -- updated and newly renovated.... We stayed in the Condado area in some *really* crappy 1 br condos -- Stella Maria -- on the beach for around $120/night. It was walking distance to grocery stores and restaurants but I didn't find the area particularly charming. (Walgreens and Starbucks abound -- convenient but def not charming....) I was there for work so the convenience factor was important but that really crappy condo was hard to look past.

I'm guessing parking is free in your Isla Verde complex in which case you might consider renting a car for a few days? I thought cab fares were a bit high (if I recall correctly, it was by zone) and a couple round trips were more than one day of car rental. People have told me exploring the rest of the island (rainforest area, etc) is worth the drive.

We had a serious talk last night, and we will be going a different direction. We're spending a week at my place in Naples, Fl just a month before the President's Day Week, as well as for a week in December. Do we really need to repeat a "beach type" vacation just a month later? Do we really want to fight the crowds of the "busiest week in Puerto Rico"? Do we really want to depend on flying in mid February when there are more delays and cancellations than almost anytime other than Thanksgiving?

So I think we're going to put this off until the first week in May. Less crowds in Puerto Rico and the restaurants we think, money saved on the condo and on airfares (which are already a couple hundred dollars each more for Feb than for May). But we do agree the condo looks great for the money. And Puerto Rico seems to be calling us more than the other islands -- more to do and the attraction of Old San Juan.

So thanks for all the advice -- it WILL be put to good use, just with a little delay.

I agree May is a better time to travel to the Caribbean price and crowd wise than February. We tend to go the 3rd week of May or the first week of November or December because of those factors.

We'll be in PR the first week of November this year. Looking forward to it.

I think is a good decision.

suze Jun 20th, 2013 08:49 AM

Smart move.

NeoPatrick Jun 20th, 2013 09:09 AM

So I guess we'll spend our first anniversary back at the scene of the "crime" -- the London Hotel in NYC over President's Day weekend. Not quite Puerto Rico, but then. . .

suze Jun 21st, 2013 08:00 AM

I blame you NeoPatrick. Now *I* want to go to Puerto Rico (lol)! I trust you'll post if and when you decide to do the trip. Looking forward to hearing about how things go.

have fun in NYC.

NeoPatrick Jun 21st, 2013 08:02 AM

suze, my shoulders are broad and I'm using to being blamed for lots of things, so I'll accept this blame as well.

My only knowledge of San Juan is a day spent there after flying it to take a cruise -- some 40 years ago. Do you think I'll find it changed?

cd Feb 25th, 2015 10:15 AM

Patrick, did you ever stay at this condo? If so, what did you think of the location?

No, never did stay there, heading to NYC for our anniversary that year instead, but funny you ask. This year in February we went to Jamaica but we are thinking of re-looking at this condo in PR for next February for a week.

cd Feb 25th, 2015 02:48 PM

We want to spend the month of Feb either in PR or Mexico

Jimmie Feb 25th, 2015 04:51 PM

Well, now I am booked to stay in that same complex for a few days before a cruise this July. I will report back.

cd Feb 25th, 2015 05:15 PM

Thanks Jimmie!

bambuman11 Feb 26th, 2015 03:24 AM

Looks sweet.

NeoPatrick Feb 26th, 2015 03:47 AM

hmmm, cd, are you suggesting renting it for all of next Feb and blocking us out from our possible anniversary rental?

Jimmie, anxious for you to report back what you find.

cd Feb 26th, 2015 06:08 AM

Patrick, that was my original thought before you stated you were interested. He has other nice looking properties #96370 that I might be interested in, I have just started looking. Also looking at Mexico. I would never take away from you guys :-) but it would be possible to work around it.

NeoPatrick Feb 26th, 2015 06:18 AM

Hey, only kidding, cd. Peter still scratches his head and says, "Puerto Rica" with some sort of negative connotation which I need to talk him out of. If you want it, go for it!

And we did get spoiled by the all inclusive Zilara in Jamaica -- not sure if we'd really be happy with a condo next time. Still that unit with the porch right on the ocean and beach looks pretty great and the location for other things in PR seems pretty great too, even the idea of the local bus for a short ride to Old San Juan.
