Christmas vacation

Hi! We are planning a 5 night vacation with our two adult daughters. We will be traveling from Boston and NYC. Options for hotels are:
Half Moon Monteego Bay
Eden Roc Cap Cana Punta Cana
Kimpton Sea Fire Resort Grand Cayman
Grace Bay Club Turks and Caicos
The Shore Club Turks and Caicos
COMO Parrot Cay

Any recommendations? We want a beautiful hotel and beach and decent food. H

Thanks!

Christmas week is one of the busiest times of the entire Season and many places are booked solid up to a year in advance. Also, many resorts and hotels have minimum stay requirements (7 to 14 days) during the Christmas holidays.

Since you are very "late" in making your plans have you checked if there is actually availability at any of those resorts for the 5 days you want to travel????

Yes. I need to figure out where to go!
Thanks.

By “Yes” do you mean you’ve already checked and those are the resorts that have availability for the 5 days you want to travel or does “Yes” mean you are wondering if they have availability???

If the latter then the only way to know if they can accommodate you for the 5 days is to contact them dir coyly as no one here will be able to give you that information.

No sense someone telling you that XYZ resort is the place to go if they don’t have any vacancies.

Yes as of yesterday there were vacancies.

In that case, if beautiful beaches are a high priority choos one of the resorts in the Turks & Caicos. Two of the threet you mentioned are on Grace Bay, of the nicest beaches in the world. Parrot Cay is also on a fantastic beach.

Another vote for Grace Bay. Half Moon in Jamaica is gorgeous, but too isolated, so if you don't like the food on site, you're in trouble unless willing to take cabs back and forth to Mobay.

Grace Bay is obviously on Grace Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and very close to many excellent restaurants ( Coyaba, Coco Bistro, Seven, to name a few.) We often go around Christmas time ( last seven years) and so far,
the weather has been perfect.

Book now before you lose it!

Just wanted to add that Grace Bay is walkable to many restaurants. Shore Club is not.

neglex Oct 19th, 2017 10:31 AM

Thanks everyone. So between Shore Club and Grace Bay which hotel is nicer? I know Shore Club is New. Are both beaches equally beautiful?

blamona Oct 19th, 2017 10:51 AM

both are gorgeous, Grace Bay on much better beach

I don't know these particular resorts but I would pick Jamaica over the DR any day of the week!

Weadles Oct 19th, 2017 11:49 AM

A cautionary note: Whatever you decide, try to have the hotel reservation held for 24 hours while you find out if you can get seats on the plane to your destination! That's one of the busiest, if not THE busiest time of the year in the islands!!

Thanks for all your help. Going to Turks and Caicos!!

Weadles Oct 20th, 2017 07:37 AM

Ha! See you there!!

what are the best restaurants in Turks and Caicos. Coco Bistro is booked when we are going. We love great fish/seafood. Can you eat anything there and not worry about getting sick?

Thanks.

blamona Nov 15th, 2017 07:51 AM

You can eat anything with no worries

Too bad coco Bistro, it’s amazing

Try Baci, Le Bouchon, Bay Bistro, Hemingway’s, Seven. Thursday night fish fry casual. Fresh Catch casual but amazing fish.

Da Conch Shack and Bugaloos

Great thanks! What about Magnolia, Mango Reef and Coyaba?

Weadles Nov 18th, 2017 11:14 AM

We are big fans of Coyaba. I think it's better than Coco Bistro! Don't like Mango Reef at all. It's like eating in an airplane terminal, and food/service both times we went last year was very mediocre.

We also are big fans of SOMEWHERE cafe for casual Mexican food and drinks. It's especially nice at sunset because it's got great views from the upper deck outside terrace. Please note that they don't take reservations for less than 6 people, so it's strictly walk-in.

IF you don't mind eating at your condo, one of my favorite places is a takeout restaurant called CHINSON'S. To die for jerk chicken and barbecue with all the trimmings! They also make really good loaves of white bread. We don't typically eat a lot of bread, but this is actually worth it!

I forgot one more place... I'm not sure if it's up and running, but LAS BRISAS in Chalk Sound is a really beautiful spot for lunch. The food is pretty good, too: Spanish tapas, hamburgers, good drinks. I think this part of the island got some heavy damage from the hurricane, so please check before going there! After lunch, leave some time for Taylor Bay, which is also in that neighborhood. One of the prettiest beaches on the island.
