Christmas in Bermuda :-)

What can you tell me about the Crystal Caves - yes, no, maybe? We'll be there for 5 nights, staying at the Fairmont Southhampton.

Appreciate any info!

Anyone? Are they easily accessible? Beautiful or just so-so?

Went to the Crystal Caves 40 years ago on our honeymoon and again this June when we celbrated of wedding anniversary by going to all the same spots. The original cave was average 40 years ago and is still average today. The "newer" cave (it wasn't opened 40 years ago) is a bit better. Really, the whole thing is a tourist trap. Go there if you don't have anything better to do with your time and money.

We visited the caves over Thanksgiving weekend. It was intersting, but nothing that special. It can be seen rather quickly. I might factor 1 hour to 1.5 hours. It is right around the corner from the Swizzle Inn too.

It was just so-so to me but I didn't feel ripped off or disappointed to have spent the time there.

Thanks! So it's an "if we're in the neighborhood" kind of a thing.

Any favorite restaurants?

cmcfong:

When I click on your link, I end up where I started. :-)

Just looking for people's most favorite Bermuda restaurant - all styles food and price ranges.

Sorry, Cyn, don't know why that diddn't work. Could be because I am a technoidiot. The link was supposed to take you to a posting on Bermuda restaurants from a number of regular visitors.
Here are my favorites:
Ascots
Waterloo House
HogPenny Pub
Henry VII
Tom Moore's Tavern
Fourways
Frog and Onion Pub
La Coquille(has changed names, is located in the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Museum)

I leave for my annual visit on Thursday and plan to try Blu which is new since my last visit. I will post a report when I get home. And, check here for a posting from TPatricco. She just returned from a visit and does a super job with her trip reports.
You are going to love Bermuda.

thanks cmcfong - hope you have a safe and fun trip, and I'll look for your review on Blu. I've been reading reports here, so I already "know" that we will love Bermuda - can't wait to get there!

I forgot to mention the Lighthouse tea shop. The food is quite good and within walking distance of your hotel.

Lucky you, cyn!! :D

It's been years since we've been to the Crystal Caves...but I would agree, if you are in the area it makes for a nice visit. Grab some ice cream afterwards.

I expect a full report on "Christmas in Bermuda". :-d

cmcfong,

I hope you enjoy every second of your trip to Bermuda ! You've been so helpful to me and so many others.

Happy travels, and I'm wishing you warmth and sun :-)

Marion

PS I'm now hoping to meet a Saudi prince and some of the Vanity Fair set at CB :-)

seetheworld Dec 5th, 2006 04:11 PM

Have a WONDERFUL trip, cmcfong!! I look forward to your restaurant review. :)

cmcfong Dec 5th, 2006 05:46 PM

Hi Marion and STW, I am definitely ready for the trip. Marion, I will be looking for those Saudi princes, too.

Thank you for the good wishes.
