It's a soup made with callaloo ( a type of spinach). It's wonderful but, I really don't know what is in it. If you go to Cayman just don't pass up the opportunity to try it.

Beach Bum you will LOVE Sunshine Suites! We are also a young couple and just returned from 7 wonderful nights at ths SS. The restaurant there, though very casual, has some of the best food on the island and is very inexpensive. Below is a copy of a posting I just made on . If you are interested in saving some money, it can be done on Cayman, you just have to plan ahead. We had some really nice, expensive dinners, but balanced that off with grilling our own shrimp/chicken kebabs one night, and salmon the other night. SS has a grill and those two nights were some of our best nights there! (We enjoy cooking). We also packed picnic lunches each day and took them to the beach. Go to Stingray City with DEXTER-- he is the best (and also less expensive). It's a smaller charter with more personal service. He is great. Don't be afraid to rent bikes. We did it (and were two of VERY few on bikes)and covered the whole west side of the island all the way up to the National Park, Turtle Farm, West Bay. Just be careful and stay to the shoulder. The following day, we rode all the way through South Sound until the road got way too busy for bike travel. Stop at Smith's Cove on your bike! If you enjoy wine, I think you can bring a few bottles in from the US. We did not do this, but it would have been wise...we didnt find a bottle of wine for less than about $12-13 US. I think the limit is 4 liters.

Stay at Sunshine Suites! We just returned from 7-wonderful days on Cayman and highly recommend Sunshine Suites by Wyndham. The quaint, all-suite hotel is located on SMB, across from the Westin and near The Links golfcourse in Safehaven. Although you will not get a waterfront view as the hotel is across the street from the beach, it is a one-minute walk to the beach and everything else is closeby too: Foster's Food Fair, Big Daddy's liquor, many restuarants, etc. The staff is very helpful and the hotel is very clean and beautifully landscaped. The restaurant at Sunshine is worth checking out, even if you are not staying there. "Sunshine Grill" is a casual, poolside restuarant with excellent food at very reasonable prices. It is definitely one of the best deals on the island. For example, the Catch of the Day at Sunshine Grill will run you CI$12.95 - you will pay at least $20-25 at most other restaurants for this dish. The fish tacos were the best meal I had on Grand Cayman! Thursday nights, they hold an all-you-can-eat BBQ, featuring local cuisine (Fish, ribs, jerk chicken, salads, etc.) for CI$15, plus offer great drink specials. The hotel has a gas grill available for those staying at the hotel, as well as fully-equipped kitchenettes in each room. You will not be disappointed by Sunshine Suites-- it is a great place to vacation!!!

One note: If you are a member of Wyndham ByRequest (which gives nice perks to members) Sunshine Suites does not participate in this program. (We were told it does not apply to Wyndham's Caribbean locations).

Is the Sunshine Suites resaurant open to the public or just for their guests? The "Thursday night all-you-can-eat BBQ" sounds interesting. Is it more geared for couples of families?

The Sunshine Grill is available to all -- those staying at the Sunshine Suites and those staying elsewhere. It's very laid back and casual -you can dine by the pool or inside. I would say it was about 50% couples (like us) and 50% families with kids. Check out - there might be a picture of the restaurant.

chidoo - thanks! we have a reservation all set... so unless we find something better in the mean time, we plan on staying there.

one thing though: i was told when i was making my reservation that they do participate in the wyndham by request program.... i guess we'll just have to wait and see; it wasn't a big deal anyway
