Cheap,Cheap, Cheap

What is the cheapest you can travel in the Carribean, say for 2 weeks, not including the cost of airfair, museum, or historical entrance fees for 2 people traveling together? Include all other costs like sleeping, food, etc. How do you travel so cheap and where?

Please list costs as a per day cost

Go to a local travel agent for information on what is least expensive from your area. The carribean is not cheap.

I've read some places that Belize is considered the cheapest place in the Caribbean. Others would argue it doesn't count since it isn't an island. It certainly is the most expensive destination in Central America.

A friend stayed on the beachin Costa Rica (Caribbean side) in a hammock (it was provided for her, and there was security) for $5 a night...she cooked food and ate local, stayed for 3-4 months.

How cheap are you talking?

No one can answer that question, there's too many variables. Room prices are a function of location on a particular island and amenities offered - a single room with a shared bath in a hostel located high in the mountains miles from the nearest village or beach is going to be more costly than a beachfront cottage that's within walking distance of restaurants and other places of interest. Food will depend on what and how much you eat - some people are willing to prepare their own meals and can subsist on a cup of coffee and a piece of toast for breakfast, a peanut butter & jelly sandwich for lunch and a hot dog & beans for dinner while others would rather eat more substantial meals in beach bars and restaurants. For transportation, some people are willing to walk everywhere, others ride bikes or take local buses while still others want to rent scooters or cars. In otherwords your own particular desires will play a big part in how much you spend.

All that being said, generally speaking the Caribbean is not a "cheap" destination. You should first establish what you think is a workable budget for your daily expenses. You should then check with a reputable travel agent to see if they can offer any package deals in your price range. There are several destinations that traditionally appeal to the budget traveller. Among them are Cancun, Cozemel, Costa Rica, Belize, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. You should check to see if they are within your price range but to take a line from a popular travel travel don't expect to travel in the Caribbean for $40/day. Those days are long gone.

Sorry, that last sentance should say "...to quote from the title of a popular travel show..."

Additionally, it depends on the quality you are willing ot settle for, as well as all inclusive vs. not. That being said, IF you are totally flexible with your dates, there are some good last minute (2 weeks ahead) bargains on most of the travel websites - it means you stay in one resort for the 2 week time frame, but if you do your research and watch the websites regularly, you can get some great deals....as I said do your research, as some of them are not discounted much at all.
