Cayman Islands; Day tour ideas for cruise stop
our cruise (December 2011) stops in Caymans, and we are interested in suggestions of what would be a good day tour. Most sites suggest Stingrays and snorkel/scuba, but, we'd rather get a taste or feel for the island. Is it a good idea to rent a vehicle for 4-5 hours ?

rent a car. you can drive the circumference of the island then stop at rum point for lunch on the beach and a swim.
you could also stop at the botanical gardens which are wonderful, lush & gorgeous. from georgetown - around the island - to rum point would take perhaps 1 1/4 hrs. or you can cut through the center of the island (passing botanical garden) & arrive rum point in 45 mins. the botanical gardens take an hour or so for a quick look. driving is on the "wrong" side if that matters. |
A visit to Stingray City is an experience not to be missed.
If you take an early tour, you'll still have time to do some island exploring. |
I just came across this driving tour that was posted on trip adviser and it sounded pretty accurate...

thanks, good advice, seems very "doable" on a limited time frame..... driving on the left is no problem, we lived in Turks & Caicos for 2 years

The beauty of Grand Cayman is in & under the water. Stingray City is the thing to do....it really is an amazing experience. I suggest a smaller operator instead of going on the "cattle boats" thru the cruise ship. Try Captain Dexter with Fantasia tours...small catamaran...and a great old timer who will have some stories for you....he was great!!
