Cayman Islands???

Any thoughts on the Cayman Islands in Jan or Feb? Not interested in snorkleing which looks like it's the main attraction, but what are other recommendations on the island to do? Places to stay on the beach on a budget? Car rental necessarily? Looking for any advice or thoughts.

You're planning to do a "budget" vacation to one of the most expensive destinations in the Caribbean, and you want to do it in the height of high season, be on the beach, and not snorkel? What precisely does "budget" mean?

I do think there are ways to keep expenses down in the Cayman Islands. There are some reasonably priced hotels that are very close to the beach (Sunshine Suites and the Comfort Suites come to mind). If you are in the Seven Mile Beach area, you don't HAVE to rent a car, though it's easier if you do. But you can get by with a couple of taxis, an island tour, and mostly cheaper public buses and walking. There are certainly some less expensive restaurants, but make sure your room has some kind of cooking facilities so you can make most dinners in.

The beaches here are lovely, so you don't have to snorkel to enjoy yourself. But it's not a particularly culture-rich destination, in my opinion.

But seriously, this is one of the more expensive destinations in the Caribbean. what DO you like to do when you're on a beach vacation? If just sitting around on the beach, then perhaps a cheaper all-inclusive resort in the DR or Jamaica would be more appropriate? Both those islands are usually easier and cheaper to reach, and if you're not into fine dining, the food will usually suffice.
