Cayman Island?
 

I am interested in going to Grand Cayman Island in March but don't want a place that is too crowded. Is this the right choice? Other recommendations? Thank you.

7-Mile Beach, where the bulk of the accomodations are, is the most crowded. <BR><BR>There are other parts that are much less crowded. Try www.turtlenestinn.com , which I've seen a lot of good reviews of. <BR><BR>If you really want seclusion, consider Little Cayman or Cayman Brac. <BR><BR>A place I just came across on the web which looks very nice is coconutpalms.com <BR><BR>

I went in June and there was no one on the beach. It was awesome. Stayed at Victoria House. Plus by then the rates are down.

You can always find a section of 7MB that is not crowded, even in peak season.

Virtually everything you read about Turtle Nest Inn is spam and not true. It is a small, dingy place in the middle of nowhere. Generally, SMB is not really crowded, but if you want no crowds, go north on the beach or go to Cayman Kai, which is quite isolated. Stay away from the hotels.

I was in Grand Cayman in May 2001 and did not find 7MB crowded at all, except by the Hyatt and Westin. There were beautiful sections of beach, especially north of the Westin with virtually no one on them.

I was interested into checking into the Turtle Nest Inn, not because I plan on going there, but because of the highly conflicting information (and because I have some extra time on my hands). At first I thought it was very nice, but then I became a little suspicous because every website featured them same picture of only the outside of the building. Then I found the reviews at wheretostay.com. You might want to check it out. I think it sounds and looks wonderful. Yes, most of what you read about Turtle Nest Inn (TNI) is spam. The owner himself spammmed the net using his own name when the inn opened. You can always tell it's spam when they bash the area they're in competition with. Of course those people are the first to brag about 7MB if you're comparing Cayman to another island, but once you choose Cayman, then 7MB is too crowded and commercialized!<BR><BR>As for "why go somewhere to see what you can see at home"... like we have a beach of 7MB's quality at home! At home we got substandard beaches like the one at TNI. You have to pay for your room in advance at TNI, and there are no refunds, so beware.

Mary -<BR><BR>wheretostay.com has booking capability on their site. Keep that in mind when you look at reviews on a site with a financial interest like that.

Mary <BR><BR>Also notice how the reviews you mentioned read like a brochure with plenty of words like "perfect" and the "best". Also notice plenty of stabs at the competition such as "Forget Seven-mile beach" and "If you're looking for lots of hustle and bustle, crowded beaches, and loads of tourists, don't come to Turtle Nest Inn." <BR><BR>It couldn't be more obvious.

Tina: Yes, you could very well be right and I'm very much against people with financial interest posing as a tourist just to talk up their property. That's bot tacky and sleazy. But I don't think the reviews are necessarily phony. I would need further info. to convince me of that. If I thought a place was that great, I would probably use those same words.

Mary, not all reviews are false of course, but almost no one assumes they're all real either. I only responded to your post because you come across like a nice person and I hoped you realized that much of what you read on boards like this is suspect, and TNI has a history of spam. I looked into TNI while on GC, and was not particularly impressed. If someone wants to tell me the best AND worst 5 things about TNI, then maybe I won't be as suspicious about their "review". Do a search here for "malain" and you will see the owner's spam announcing the new inn he "discovered".

Plus, the place only has like eight rooms. How could there be that many people who have stayed there AND find their way to this site to SPAM, I mean review, the place?

Good point. There are so many places in Grand Cayman that you rarely see a review about, but TNI with its 8 rooms has dozens of reviews on so many boards. If TNI was SUPER special then maybe... but it's VERY average. Their "king" beds are actually 2 twins moved together.
