We will be stopping in Georgetown on a cruise and have about 8 hrs. I was wondering how much a taxi would be to SMB and if there is somewhere to rent chairs and have a few drinks and lunch.
Thanks

Yes, there's a public beach at the northern end of 7 Mile Beach where you can rent chairs (about $10 for the day, which I believe includes a drink ... otherwise, there are alots of places nearby). I don't know the taxi fare, but it will probably be under $20. There's also a public bus for a fraction of that.

You can head to 7MB and enjoy the sand or head to Sunset House and have lunch, the best rum punch on the island and incredible snorkeling off of the iron shore and they have a fresh water pool too. Try the grilled dolphin sandwich with jerk mayo...yummy!

DianeL you are on the right track. You will have a much better time creating your own "excursion" than doing something with the boat. Most cruise ships go to one beach that is insanely packed with cruiseship passengers and I always feel sorry for them all. It looks miserable.
You should be able to rent chairs at Royal Palms which also has a fun beachy bar. Also cayman420 is right... Sunset House would be fun for snorkeling (be advised, though... there is no beach there) and I completely agree with the dolphin sandwich being yummy. That's the only thing I ever get there because I can never turn it down!
