Good is not the right word for Casa Del Mar. It is more like EXCELLENT!! Especially for families. We have been there recently nad had a wonderful time. There are four tennis courts. Water sports include banana boat rides, wind surfing, water skiing, paddle boats, kayaks and catamaran rides. Prices range from 1129 - 1179 Canadian per person (that was the last time I checked - you should see the SunQuest site - they have listed the price there). The resort is bout 2 hours away from the Santo Domingo Airport. But they have air conditioned (very comfortable) buses that take you to and from the airport. Shopping - you could get some shopping in the gift shop there or go to the village of Bayahibe (right next to the resort's beach). Or you can go to La Romana (close by - the resort has a free bus ride to La Romana every day - at various times). We had a wonderful vacation here. And would love to go back there. We have recommended it to a few people and they have also had a good time. If you need more details, please email me.
just returned from the casa del mar and it is a very lovely resort. it is super clean, good food, great service, wonderful beach, waterskiing, banana boat rides all included. entertainment could be a little better and i personal hoped they would not play so much merengue music all in all a wonderful vacation. i would recommend this resort to anyone - especially families with children.

How is the food? What types of food offered and is it all buffet? If they have a la carte restaurants what is the menu and food 'quality' like?
Food is important on our all inclusive trips and the last trip brought us home very disappointed (the food was yuck!). We are interested in this place but would like to hear all the details on food and drink before making that decision.
Thanks for your help. The beach looks wonderful in pictures....how is it?

Hi John,
Here's the restaurant part of my review that I posted on the "Traveltalk" forum after our return from Casa del Mar in March 1998. We found it to be very OK taking into account that the resort had only been open for 2 months.

Restaurants:
1. BAYAHIBE BUFFET: buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner (sometimes just buffet, one night "German buffet", one night "Caribbean buffet", etc.) -- food is OK but one week was enough
2. SAONA TERRACE: continental breakfast, "fast food" for lunch (chicken and french fries, hamburger, hot dog, tuna sandwich - all very good), "à la carte" for dinner (grilled meat and fish) -- food was nothing special
3. MICHELANGELO REST.: pizza for lunch which was OK and well organized (no self service, no waiting at the counter), "à la carte" Italian cuisine for dinner -- very good food, very professional service
4. ASIA REST.: "à la carte" Chinese restaurant. We don't like Chinese food, so we did not try this one.

For the 3 à la carte restaurants reservations should be made. Upon arrival we got 3 vouchers (1 for every restaurant). Every morning at breakfast at the Bayahibe buffet there is a man who takes reservations for the 3 restaurants which you can book all 3 at the time if you wish.

You can find my complete review on the Traveltalk forum, posted on 16th May 1998.
