Caribbean...Your Choice?
 

2 Couples planning a trip to the Caribbean in Dec/Jan '99. Looking for remote/secluded island. Want beautiful views, private beaches, scuba diving. Will probably stay at a villa instead of a resort. Were thinking of St. Johns, any votes for ST. Johns or would you have another recommendation?

I vote for St. John's. My husband and I have never stayed there, but have done day trips from other islands. We think that Trunk Bay, St. Johns is the most beautiful spot in the Caribbean (we have seen Aruba, Curacao, Jamaica, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, Bahamas, Haiti, St. Thomas, San Juan, St. Maarten, etc.). The snorkeling is the best, so I am sure you will love scuba there. Have fun! <BR>

It would be helpful if you would indicate how much you would like to pay a week for food and lodging. Places came in all price ranges

Hi! <BR>I would recommend the British Virgin Islands over any other in the Carribean. They are truly more remote and secluded than the others and you can take day trips and find your own isolated beaches. We stayed on Tortola and took day trips to Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, and St John. Granted St. John was nice, but not as nice as the BVI's. If you need more info. feel free to e-mail me. We stayed at LaSource, Grenada last Feb. <BR>Semi private beach, great views, quiet island with friendly, helpful locals, great food, and scuba included in their package. Also included, daily spa treatments, massages etc. Probably equal price wise to Virgin Isles, but you get so much more. 100 rooms spread out, so there was an intimate feeling among the guests, many of whom were repeaters. We'd go back in an instance! Look under "personal preferences" on this board or via grenada hotels. The photos are true life: what you see is what you'll get! Enjoy. <BR>

St. John is a great place for two couples to rent a villa. The villas there are plentiful and reasonable. My husband and I visited St. John for the first time in mid-July, and we hope to return with another couple next time. It was our first time staying in a villa, as opposed to a Caribbean island resort, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Virgin Gorda is a very nice island, too, but I think you'll find more to do(and more beaches) on St. John. Do take a day trip to The Baths in Virgin Gorda and also a day trip to St. Thomas for shopping. Check Post #23 under US Virgin Islands. I have posted a list of villa websites there for St. John. Have spent past two Christmases and New Years on St. John. It is great. Try Star Villas for a great price and fantastic views. They are at the tip of Cruz Bay and you see the cruise ships coming and going each day. <BR>Also you don't need a car - you can walk to the jitneys to take you to the beach. Try the Lime Inn on Wednesday for all the shrimp you can eat cooked in their special way. Enjoy - we are definitely spending New Year's Eve 99 there

St. John is a definite. You would thoroughly enjoy St. John. Villa accommodation is the way to go for that island. Contact Catered Too for assistance with accommodations. They are the booking agent for approx 30+ villas and private homes on the island. Sorry I don't have their number. You can visit the BVI's by ferry link (30mins) from St. John or for shopping ferry to St. Thomas for $30.00 (10mins) and you are still in the US on your vacation in the Caribbean. Enjoy. <BR>
