Caribbean honeymoon suggestions for October 2011
My fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon for next October. We are looking for something that will be all inclusive. Last year we visited the Caribbean for the first time, we went on a cruise that stopped in Puerto Rico, St. Marteen, and the BVI. Of those places the BVI was our favorite. We have been looking for a nice place to celebrate our honeymoon that has really nice beaches, but also provides some other activities for us to take advantage of, such as snorkeling. We have heard some good things about St. Lucia, but we are not sold on a Sandals resort. Does a Sandals resort seem like the best thing for us? I think we would also like to look into going to the US virgin islands, probably St. Johns, if we can find an all inclusive place. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Rick |
It would help if you gave us some idea of your budget so we can steer you in the right direction. Try to be specific - don't use terms like "affordable", "not too expensive", "won't break the bank" as they are meaningless without a dollar point of reference. What's affordable for one person may seem extravagant to another or just the opposite.
For what it is worth, October is smack dab in the middle of Hurricane Season for the Caribbean and many (but not all) resorts will be closed so that may limit your choices on where to go and stay. You'd be wise to purchase Travel Insurance with "Hurricane Trip Interruption Coverage" if you decide to go to the Caribbean in October. Another thing to consider, St. Lucia is not noted for great snorkeling but it is a very lush and attractive island. While you'll find some very good to excellent snorkeling in the USVI, especially on St. John (FYI - there's no "S") you won't find any "All Inclusives" on the island. Caneel Bay does offer an optional Meal Plan but that's the closest you'll come. I'm not sure if the resort itself will be open in October - you'll have to contact them directly to find out. There are lots of All inclusives in the Dominican Republic, Cancun, Cozemel, Playa del Carmen and Jamaica. |
I loved St Lucia. It offers lots of activities, but snorkeling is not the best. It is the most romantic island we ever visited.
If you want an all inclusive with lots of activities, I recommend heading to the Mexica Riviera Maya - south of Playa Del Carmen. The BVIs were one of our favorite destinations as well. We took an 8 day charted yacht sailing - INCREDIBLE!! Happy planning! |
Thank you both for your replys...
Roamsaround, we are still working on putting the budget together, I think it will hopefully be around $4,000-%5,000 for the two of us, but if we find some place that we really want to go we can be somewhat flexible. mykidsmom99, do you have any places that you would recommend in St. Lucia? I know that is the island that my fiance most wants to go to. Thanks again, and if anyone else has any suggestions I would love to hear them. |
you should have no difficulty finding a suitable resort in October with a $5,000 budget - it's Low Season so those resorts that are open will have the lowest room prices of the year. As I mentioned the one difficulty you may encounter is many resorts are closed in October.
Check out Anse Chastanet, Ladera or Jalousie on St. Lucia. Consider Barbados - it's further east in the Caribbean than most islands so it's not threatened by as many major storms. The one drawback is you might not find many All Inclusives. |

St Lucia my fav good values on www.bookit.com www.couples.com Swept Away Negril Congrats! |
Our honeymoon was in October last year. We were worried about a huricane damaging the island before we got there, also that is the rainy season in much of that part of the world.
That is why we picked Aruba. It is south of the Huricane path (I think the closest one has ever come was 60 miles) and it is a desert island so it is dyier then many islands during the wet season. |
