Caribbean Drink Recipes

My husband & I will be traveling to Grand Cayman the last week of December. We have never been to the Cayman Islands but have been told the drinks are very expensive. Therefore, we would like to make some of our own in our condo. Does anyone have some quick and easy drinks they could recommend that have a carribean flavor?

Planters Punch. An ounce of dark rum, 3 oz pineapple juice, 2 oz orange juice, 1/4 oz Grenadine, ice, is one version. One place sprinkled a bit of nutmeg on top.

Try three parts Pinapple two parts OJ and one Grapefruit. Myers Dark rum, Coconut Rum and peach brandy. May like to add a bit of Cream of Coconut. May like a touch of lime juice.

The basic "boat drink" is a pinnapple OJ and rum drink with a bit of coconut. Go with what is around, try local fruit juices like guava or papaya to make one that will forever remind tyou of the trip. It is hard to get one wrong. Throw it in a blender for a frozen drink too.

A key ingredient can be the cream of coconut which mixed with pinnapple and rum can be blended into a scratch pina colada.

The very best thing in my mind is to fashion one you like while on a great trip and then when at home and needing a one night vacation, make the drink again, play a bit of island music, and just remember!

Even though you are not going to Aruba,
this website has a drink recipe page
for the drink of the month and also
archives for past drinks of the month
going back to 1999 or 1998! Go to
www.visitaruba.com and on the right side
of their homepage, scan down the menu;
click on "Drink of the Month" and it
goes to that page and you will find a
lot of recipes for Caribbean drinks!
JanGail
