Caribbean beer?

We are taking a Caribbean cruise in Nov. We have enjoyed trying local brews on the islands in previous visits to the Caribbean. Does anyone have names of Caribbean beers that should be tried?

John: Since living in Germany for nearly three years, I've come to appreciate good beer. Whenver I travel, I like to try the local brews. In Aruba, they have an abundance of Amstel, which is not local, it's Dutch and it's very good. In the Bahamas, they have a good local beer in Kalik (pronounced: "kahleeck"). It is a light amber beer that is real smooth and pleasant. I've tried to find it at home, but have been unable to. Enjoy!

I agree with Lee regarding Amstel as a good choice of imported beer. With regard to good local beer, I'll cast my vote(s) for El Presidente (Dominican Republic) and Red Stripe (Jamaica).

Several islands have their local brews: Piton (St. Lucia), Hairoun (St. Vincent), Carib (Grenada) and Banks (Barbados), Red Stripe (Jamaica) to name a few. Dominica, I understand, now has its own home-brewed beer too - but I don't know the name. Heinekin, bottled locally in the Caribbean, is popular everywhere. Red Stripe is also available on most islands. The beer is not as strong as US beers and certainly not as strong as European beers - but very thirst-quenching and delicious nonetheless. Enjoy.

I've always enjoyed Red Stripe and it is widely available in the Caribbean. However there are 2 beers in St. Vincent & the Grenadines that I think are the 2 best beers I've ever had. Hairoun and my favorite, EKU.
