St. John Hotels

Are any St. John hotels within walking distance of Cruz Bay? Hilly ? I imagine?

Gallows Point and Estate Lindholm would be the top two. Inn at Tamarind would be another. However, I would hesitate to use the word "hotel"(more like condos or inns)

The St. John Inn is also walking distance (up a medium hill).

The only two hotels on St. John are the Westin and Caneel Bay. Although there are several condos and b&b inns in Cruz Bay and nearby few would be an easy walk. Gallows condos would be the easiest walk as the others involve hills that are challenges on the return.

I don't think the walk back to St. John Inn would rate as 'challenging' unless you're used to total inactivity at home or have mobility problems.

we just returned from a week on st thomas. we spent a day on st john and based on our conversations with the locals, gallows point is a great place to stay. We did walk by it and it does look very nice. I think that it's a condo complex that rents units, thus, it is not a resort. I don't think that it has a pool nor a decent beach. However, the location is right on the water in cruz bay which allows you to walk to many great restaurants plus the locals told us that there is some excellent snorkeling right off the beach there. Do a search on yahoo for st john and gallows point and you can find a web page from a realtor showing the property.

Tom,
I'm afraid you gave some incorrect information regarding Gallows Point. It is a resort. There is a small beach, rocky but with excellent snorkeling. There is a pool and the sunset views are spectacular. There is front desk service, daily housekeeping and they will meet you at the dock upon your arrival in Cruz Bay and transport you to the resort. There is a small store on the premisis for essentials, an excellent restaurant, ZoZo's and you can book daysails and other activities through the front desk.
Gallows Point Resort manages 51 of the 60 units at GP. Suite St John manages the other 9 units but you don't get the resort services if you rent from Suite St John.
Gallow's Point is one of my favorite spots on St John. Their website is www.gallowspointresort.com. The Suite St John units can be seen at www.suitestjohn.com.

thanks for the clarification on gallows point. I looked at the web page for suite st john and didn't see anything about a pool. Thus, I am happy to hear about the pool because that would have prevented us from staying there as we have kids. Thanks again, i will strongly consider this place in the future.

If you have kids, stay at the Westin.
