Anguilla has some of the finest dining in the Caribbean -- absolutely rent a car. There are lots of nice restaurants "near" Cap J, meaning you will need to drive to them but they're not too far. The island is very easy to navigate as there's esentially one long road down the middle with little roads shooting off of it. Near Cap are Mangos, Altamer, Trattoria, Blanchards, L'Indigo, to name a few. You'll want to have dinner at Pimms (CJ) at least one night, as well. www.news.ai has articles about the island & links to all the restaurants (at the top of the opening page: "menus"). You're going to love Anguilla!

We stayed at Cap a couple of years ago, 2 years in a row. At that time you could go on the meal plan for dinner alone (saved some money over a la carte for a 3 course meal). We stayed for about 10 days and spent the last 3 or 4 eating at Pimms. Once you went on the plan you had to stay on it so we opted to do that at the end of our vacation. Pimms is wonderful and I think it is one of the best restaurants on Anguilla. It didn't make sense to take the MAP since a nice continental breakfast of breads and fruits is delivered to your room every morning, and it was so enjoyable to eat on the beautiful patio. If you stay relatively close to the resort you can take taxis to dinner at some other very nice places nearby, such as the restaurant at Malliouhana, Altamer and Mangos. A car is also fine if you want to explore the island, but you aren't there that many days and Cap Juluca is so special!

Mary's right on target.
One of Anguilla's biggest assets is its great assortment of excellent restaurants. On a meal plan you'll feel obligated to eat at CJ.
I would strongly suggest not limiting yourself in this way.
Get a car and venture out to have some great meals in a variety of settings.

One of the reasons I chose Anguilla years ago, is that its easy to get to wonderful restaurants, not to lock myself in to one resort. Cap is wonderful and very seductive. Its so easy to just wander to Georges,Pimms, Kemia, but do not limit yourself! The above posters have given you great advice. Lots of choices on the island, and some of the best near CJ. Trattoria Tramonto, Mangos, Blanchards,
Tastys, the new Indigo, Malliouhana, Scilly Cay, etc. etc. too many choices. Its just amazing. Yes, do rent a car!
