Can't decide between 3 Bermuda hotels
 

My husband and I are taking a 4 night trip to Bermuda in August, we've never been before. We'd like a quiet place, yet not too far from the major restaurants, shopping etc. I've narrowed it down to The Reefs, Pompano Beach Club and Cambridge Beaches. Looking for advice on choosing between these 3, or if you don't think any of these are a good fit, I'll happily take suggestions!

I'll try to help. The major restaurants and shopping are in Hamilton, St. George's and Dockyard. The Reefs is about a twenty five minute cab ride to Hamilton. Pompano Beach is a short shuttle ride to the ferry to Hamilton which takes about twenty minutes (beautiful!) or the bus to Dockyard which would take about fifteen or so minutes. Cambridge Beaches is a short cab ride to Dockyard and a thirty minute ferry ride to Hamilton. All that said, Bermuda is not a big place. Cabs are expensive, but the public transportation system is reliable.
The quietest of the three would be Cambridge Beaches, followed by the Reefs with Pompano most likely to have families.
All three are great properties and my guess is you would be happy with any of them.

Madana, wondering which hotel you stayed... Did you happen to see Tucker's Point Hotel and Spa? Will be spending a long weekend in October and wanted to find a nice hotel.. Tucker's is new and did not know if it was as great as it sounds...

I believe madana is going in August. Friends of mine stayed at Tucker's Point in June and had nothing but raves for the accomodations, the ocean club and the food. Check Trip Advisor, there are some reviews posted.

Thanks for the advice, cmcfong. At this point I think we're leaning towards Cambridge Beaches. Everything is so expensive that I'm afraid to commit!

I think the prices seem high this summer. Want to go back in August but too much for the 8th visit!!!

We have been to Bermuda on three different vacations. We have stayed all three times at the wonderful Elbow Beach Hotel with the pink sands. Elbow Beach is one of the oldest hotels on the island and has one of the best beaches any where to be found. If you don't like the sand and ocean water, there is a wonderful pool on the property. The hotel has very recently been redone again and does not have an old interior by any means. There are even at least 2 public computers that you may use instead of lugging your own laptop. It is on the Atlantic Ocean southern side of the island, not the bay side. This means that you get waves from the ocean, and not the stillness of a bay or lagoon. The pink sands are the consistency of powdered sugar, and even if it is 100 degrees that day, the sand remains cool and you can easily walk in your bare feet on the beach. It is absolutely wonderful in service, lodging, food, and beach amenities. There is a beach and dive shop right on the property, and you can rent whatever you desire. You can get everything from scuba gear to paddle boats. There is no better place on the whole island.

My husband loves to golf there, and while he is golfing I feel totally comfortable and safe to take a taxi into Hamilton and do shopping. We have been all over the Caribbean on cruises and there is no where that is more safe and wonderful to visit. No one hassles you on the beach like in Barbados, Jamaica, etc. The whole British flavor of the island is absolutely phenomenal. It will truly be a vacation to remember.

There are many things to do on the island besides golf and shop (although those are excellent past times in Bermuda.) We have ridden horses along the beach around 6 AM in the morning, and ridden past a wedding in progress. We have chartered a sailboat along with another couple from England that we did not know. We went around the island, stopped along the way and snorkeled. We went to Horseshoe Bay and Church Bay for wonderful snorkeling. We have done the jet ski trips, and taken a ferry to the Royal Dockyard for lunch and more shopping. There is so much to do on the island that you won''t be able to do it all. We really didn't feel that the cost of the taxis were high at all. The taxis are mostly run by families with their own vans and are licensed. They are very good, and will point out many things of interest to you or answer your questions. Everyone on the island treated us very well as Americans.

We usually go for a week to Bermuda each time that we go. I feel that to go for only 3 or 4 days, it is really a 2 day trip because you spend a day on each end traveling. That doesn't make it hardly worth the expense of the trip. There is enough to do at Elbow Beach that you really don't have to leave the resort. There are many wonderful restaurants to choose from and range from dressy and elegant to a restaurant right on the beach where you can wear anything. Elbow Beach has it all and we highly recommend it.

So after hours of careful deliberation, we postponed our trip to Bermuda due to big bad Hurricane Bill. Luckily, the Reefs was very understanding and we did not incur any penalty for rescheduling. Hope Bill doesn't hit too hard!
