I am staying in a beachfront room categor and I was deciding whether to request a room on Turtle Bay or Hawksnest. Either one sounds really nice and I like the idea of having breakfast delivered to the room, I didn't know that you had that option, seems like a nice touch. Thanks to everyone's helpful responses I think I have a better idea of what to expect as far as cost, service, etc. Thanks again, Susan

dekinjack - Not sure where you are from but it's not bad there in late July. I'm from DC and the weather in St. John is usually the same, if not better, than in DC at that time of year (high 80's, humid, possible passing shower). Don't wait til Aug. to go - that's when the jelly fish seem to be in full force! Enjoy your trip to paradise.

the caribbean seems to nickle and dime you anyway (parkcitygal, was it your first or second time?) When traveling there, my husband and I always opt for toting along a cooler with "supplies" (frozen meats, wine, etc) so we don't have to pay high prices even at the Star Mart) they sell ones that last 16 hours with frozen food! (Walgreens or Walmart should have it, think it's "California" cooler or something like that). If you're looking to save a buck, try Gallow's Point which is right next to town. (through Suite St. John, I think.) Overlooks the water, upscale caribbean condo's. A 2 minute walk to Stone Terrace (yum!) and the Beach Bar. Don't forget Fish Trap down the street, and the barbeque stand in town for lunch. Woodies has a great happy hour, and Duffy's Love Shack for dancing and partying at night.

You might want bug spray just in case, end of July and Aug get's em sometimes. not bad, though.

We've been to the Caribbean over 10 times already but it was our first time to St. Johns. It wasn't that I was upset about the prices of everything...it was the inconsistency...just when you thought you knew when you were going to have to pay for something (or not) it changed. You never knew what it was going to be.
