Caneel Bay: Scott Beach vs Caneel Beach

My soon to be wife and I are staying at Caneel Bay, but I wanted to see which is better...we are currently booked for a beachfront room on Caneel Beach, would it be better to upgrade to a Premium room on Scott Beach? I know that the Premium offers a better view and a balcony and is restricted to adults only, does anyone know if the beach front rooms on Caneel Beach have balconies? any information is greatly appreciated..... <BR> <BR> <BR>

Definitely upgrade!!! My husband and I took our honeymoon at Caneel Bay in August of 2000. We booked a premium room on Scotts Beach. I don't know if the Caneel Beach rooms have balconies. Caneel Beach is probably the most crowded beach that I saw while we were there. Scotts Beach, on the other hand, was the most secluded beach that I saw. There would be many days when my husband and I were the only people on the beach. There were never more than two other couples on the beach at the same time we were. Also, as you mentioned, children are not allowed on Scotts Beach, which is a plus. It is so worth the extra money to upgrade. I promise you would not regret the decision. Please e-mail me if you have any questions about Caneel Bay or St. John. I love to talk about the experience that we had. It was the most wonderful place I have ever been, and I couldn't have dreamed of a better honeymoon. We are already planning our return trip for next year!

Becca, <BR>Thank you for your input!!!We are definately going to do it!!! I just wanted to make sure it was worth it, ..so as you stepped off your balcony you were right on the beach? also how is Scott Beach for Sunrise and Sunset? <BR>

You will enjoy Scott Beach, Caneel Beach Beach is very busy, water sports, ferry, dining pavillon, lots of rooms set in back of the beachfront rooms- so Scott is worth it. One story units, beautiful sunsets. Lovely! Low key!

Thank you Penney!!! <BR>Which Beach did you favor the most, also did you stay at Caneel Bay the whole time? if you have a meal plan are you able to use it any other places other than Caneel, I hear they have a sister resort...?

Scott's Beach is definitely more secluded and well worth the upgrade and you will be glad you did it. The patios do front the beach and you will take advantage of the late afternoon sun. My other favorite is Hawksnest Beach to take advantage of the great tradewinds and the early morning sun. Be sure to walk down to Honeymoon Beach which is a lovely location. The sister resort is Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda and Caneel offers day trips there. No "dine around" with other resorts on St. John since the only other hotel on the island is the Westin.

Hi Jeff-We have been to Caneel 4 times and part of the charm is dining in Cruz Bay. We love the casual ambience of this little town and its little restaurants. Caneel is very relaxed and the food is very good-TuRtle Bay Estate House is likd a country club atmosphere so we did not want that every night. It really depends on what time of the year you will be going as Turltle is only open for breakfast during high season, otherwise the main pavillion overlooking Caneel Beach is fun, or a picnic hamper to your room. <BR>We enjoy Scott at our doorstep, and visiting all of the beaches. We like Scott the best. The sister resort is Little Dix Bay, a wonderful place, about a 40 minute ferry ride away. You can visit this resort for the day, the ferry goes 3 times/week or split and do the island hopper. We did that a few years ago and loved it! We did the meal plan at LDB but not at Caneel. Have fun!

Scotts Beach is the best!!!! <BR> <BR>And the day trip to LDB is wonderful. <BR>Go directly to LDB and skip the crowded <BR>"Baths". You can do that on another trip to LDB. Im jealous!!

Hi, Jeff! To answer your question about the meal plan, my husband and I had a meal plan that included breakfast and dinner only. The breakfast buffets every morning are great -- more food than we could ever think about eating and there was such a variety of foods. There was so much food that we didn't miss not having lunch included in our meal plan. As far as dinner goes, Turtle Bay was wonderful -- filet mignon, lobster tails, etc., etc. Equator, however, was our worst dining experience -- I would recommend skipping this restaurant. One night we took a taxi to Asolare restaurant in town. I highly recommend this. The view from our table was breathtaking, and the food and service was incredible. When my husband and I return to Caneel Bay, we are going to do the meal plan for only part of our stay so we can enjoy more of the restaurants on St. John. Our travel agent told us it was possible to have a meal plan for only part of the stay, so you might want to consider doing that.
