I am still undecided, but I have a lot of info to guide my decision.

CaribbeanSoul, not sure if your question ws directed to me (I'm not sure who diane is). I am kind of disappointed that there isn't a tie-breaker for me. A Westin-like hotel with a beautiful beach would be my ideal.

CarribeanSoul, I looked at 3 different villa websites, and finally decided that for this first time we would try the resort, and on future trips (with kids and such), a villa would be a really good way to go. This first trip is for our honeymoon, so we were looking to be right on the beach, which I think will be great at Caneel Bay. I think we will definitely do some trips into Cruz Bay for dining, though, to save $ and also for good quality food and atmosphere. Thanks!

Beth -

See my trip report posted today for St. John. I checked out both the Westin and Caneel Bay resorts this past week. I can probably answer any questions you have.

Caneel Bay for your honeymoon is great -we were there last year. They do have a nice fitness center up on the hill (we checked it out but didn't use it... but we had good intentions...) Honestly, if you walk the resort, you'll get some pretty good exercise - it is 170 acres.

We just got back from another visit to the island last month - stayed at a inn (Estate Lindholm)& explored on our own. The inn owners were gone the week we visited but the couple that managed while they were gone were great. They would be down at the continental breakfast each morning suggesting beaches to explore, etc. And honeymoon beach was a .5 mile hike down the trail - some mornings we were the only people there.

Restaurants in Cruz Bay are nice - but some are quite expensive. We loved Asolare (great view - expensive - next to Estate Lindholm... that's how we found the inn 3 years ago), La Tapa (moderate/expensive - on the main street - can be noisy) and Paradiso (expensive, in Mongoose Junction - we sat at the bar & ate appetizers)... there's another place called Tage on the main street - didn't get there. I know there are those who love Fish Trap - we didn't particularly enjoy that meal... For sandwiches we liked the Beach Bar - and, on the other side of the island, Shipwreck landing & Skinny Legs. Have fun.

There are phones that you can use in the computer room which you would also have access to whenever you want. You can however get a cell phone for that time that you are away, if you weren't aware of that.

As for fitness, they do have a gym with equipment that when we were there 3 years ago was just fine. It's not a full service gym but they had weights and cardio equip. Plus you have the ocean to swim in and kyacks to use to get plenty of exercise. WE loved it there. I thought my husband would have a stroke without TV but he brought reading material and didn't miss it at all.
