What is Caneel Bay like? Which room would provide the best privacy and view? Are there any beaches that offer great views, or are you shut in with views of boats? What is the beach service like? Do they have a business center with internet?

Caneel it all....best you have disposable income.

If budget allows Cottage #& "on a request only basis" in rooms C.D.E.F, ONLY. NOT A or B. is as good as Caneel rooms and views get. In the mid-range we like Hawks Nest with "a request" for second floor-end unit".

Caneel is quiet and peaceful and tasteful. No TV's in the rooms. All the oceanfront and beachfront rooms offer great views (some better than others as StanKase mentioned earlier). You might want to check out some photos on caneelbay.com. The beach service is minimal at best--some beaches do not have any service at all. Some days we did not see any servers even on the "main" beach--Caneel Beach. They have a couple computers with internet access, but not a business center, per se.

The most privacy and views are at the rooms on Cottage Point (ocean view prime category) BUT you'll have to walk a couple minutes to Scott Beach, as Cottage Point is rocky. Upstairs on Hawksnest is quite private, and very quiet. The views are to water and coves to the east. Rooms are right on the sand, wade-in snorkeling, and it's only 100 yards or so to stroll to Scott or Turtle Beach for alternate snorkeling. Scott Beach has broad views towards St.Thomas and other islands, but with only one-story rooms, so your privacy is limited. Turtle Beach faces the boat traffic to BVI. At Caneel's website, www.caneelbay.com click on travel details, and you can pull up a grounds map showing room categories, numbers, locations. The website room photos are a good representation of what the rooms are like. Caneel is not for pampering, but it is incomparable for tropical beachfront paradise.

I would have to agree with xkenx-Cottage point is the most private- I stayed there during my last visit and I believe there are only about 4 or 5 rooms situated on a bluff, which is off the main path. All have incredible views over Pillsbury Sound looking out towards St Thomas. The view not only offers the sunset, the lights on St Thomas are appealing to some as well. The views on Scott Beach are similar without the high vantage point.
Turtle Bay looks out over the water to the North so you will see a lot of boat traffic. Hawks nest view is over a tranquil and protected cove.

Cottage Point is almost as private as Cottage #7 as others have pointed out but there is less lush vegatation, in my opinion, over and around this set of units so it may get hotter even with good A/C. I have not stayed there. While Coyttage #7 has a far amount of lush greenery around it does have an absence of big trees but the A/C units are larger because the rooms ate about 2/3rds larger than almost all other sections.They are not suites but Caneel rooms in general are not large be it Hawks Nest or Turtle Bay or Scott beach but are of adequate size and furnishing throughout Caneel in under-stated but very nice.

Personally, I don't think there's a bad room in the place since it's such an easy walk to one of many beautiful beaches. Definitely consider using Virtuoso for making arrangements. Their package includes upgrades (based on availability) plus a free cold continental breakfast every day (which normally costs around $22/person).

Calling Rosewood or Caneel directly gets you exactly the same thing. Complimentary upgrades when available, and free contintental breakfast daily-- those things are absolutely standard.

Poss, I don't think NSO means the 6AM-730AM coffee, tea, bagels, juice and sweet rolls out by the bar area. I think he means the huge breakfast buffet minus anything hot. When we were there in November, someone mentioned to me the deal with virtuoso. Owa

Owa-- I suspect you're correct-- though the breakfast you're speaking of could never properly be called a "continental" one (much more elaborate and varied than that).
I've always been curious abt that Virtuoso company. The one time I inquired, I didn't get the sense that booking that way made a real difference, but I could be mistaken. I'd love to find a way to get breakfast included. We usually just eat on our lanai (which I do enjoy), making coffee in the room and eating our squirrled away goodies from the previous day's tea. Sometimes we manage to haul on down before 8:00 for the juice and bagels.
