Cancun Hotels - Your opionions please!
Considering vacationing in Cancun New Years 2000 with my family (kids ages 7 and 10). Looking for a very reputable hotel, spacious rooms a plus with a great beach!! Thanks.
|
Check out the Fiesta Americana Coral Beach. All rooms face the ocean, so you can't go wrong. The breakfast buffet at the hotel each morning was excellent, but pricey. This hotel is expensive, but it is by far the most beautiful hotel that I've ever stayed in. When we first decided to go, we reserved the Kyrstal, but once we arrived & went across the street to the Coral Beach, we payed extra to move. We also made the mistake of going during Spring Break. Lots of college kids, but being as pricey as it is, the kids stay away from The Coral Beach because there's too many other cheap hotels. The beach was a little crowded if you didn't get out there early. I'm a beach lover, so that was probably the only draw back. Have a great trip!!! |
HI; I Would recommend any of the following all of great beaches and are in a quieter more family oriented part of Cancun Island. Sun Palace (all suite hotel) and "all inclusive", The Omini, The Melia Cancun and Caesar Park. All great hotels in great locations. Went to Cancun twice last year, once with my kids (ages 9 and 15) stayed at Sun Palace and liked it very much. Email me if you have questions ! |
Please give some information on the Sun Palace. I am considering it for my honeymoon. What includes "all-inclusive". |
Hi!!
I too would lke more info on the Sun Palace in Cancun. We have a week booked in April and are taking our 14 year old with us. Am wondering what activities will be available for kids her age?? What is the liklihood of her meeting kids her own age??Any suggestions that we can pass on to her??? Would also like to hear from others who may have snorkelled off the Club Med beach... how far is it? Any advise??? Much appreciated!! |
I was wondering if you can tell me more about the Sun Palace's food, entertainment and what non-motorized watersports they offer.
thanks, Tam |
These all sound like great hotels. Can you give me
any idea of what you paid per night? |
The Ritz-Cartlon simply offers the ultimate in accomidations and service in Cancun. The beach and pools are beautiful!
For families, I've heard good things about the Crown Paradise, although I've never stayed there. I believe it's all-inclusive. Good kids program with regularly scheduled activities. Also, staff will watch your children while you're on the hotel grounds.
We own at the Sun Palace and highly reccomend it. Use your search engine for Cancun on Line great web site and a very active bulletin board. As for prices I can't help much since we always trade into various places. Any info regarding trips etc E Mail me. Harriet and Rob

My wife and I are going to Mexico Aug 24th. and we want to know if they really check for pass ports? Can we just use our birth Certificates and drivers licenses? How is the Cancun Palace? Someone please reply. Thank You
|
Brian, DO NOT TRY TO GO TO MEXICO WITHOUT A PASSPORT!!!! You cannot get in without a passport or an original notarized document stating that you are a U.S. Citizen. I went to Mazatlan a few years ago without a passport. I had driver's license and birth certificate, and they would not let me on the plane. There was a notary on duty at the airport, and I got the official document, which is supposed to suffice. However, each time I used the document instead of a passport, I was asked to pay a "special" fee, ie, bribe. So I would NOT recommend even trying it. I had to pay off several people a total of about $100 in order to get in and OUT of Mexico without a passport. Just be safe and get one.

While I do agree that getting a passport is the best form of I.D. when traveling to Mexico it absolutely is not necessary. I'm not disputing Shawna's troubles in Mazatlan, but I traveled to Cancun and Cozumel eight times with my notarized (raised seal) birth certificate and driver's license and not only never had any trouble, but never witnessed or heard about anyone else having problems. Maybe Cancun has many more American visitors than Mazatlan and can't afford to allow such a practice to go on. On the other hand, after six years of dragging around my ratty birth certificate I finally spent the $65 and got my passport. Much simpler and your fellow travelers will appreciate it when the line goes more quickly.

Been to Cancun 4 times going again in August. Be sure your birth certificate is orginal with raised seal. Works just fine.

If a beach is a main consideration, be careful of which Cancun hotel you book. While the pictures in brochures look great, many of the hotels have lost their beaches.

My husband and I went to Cancun in May 95, May 96, and May 1997. We stayed at the Sheraton each time. As of the last trip, the beaches at the hotels north of the Sheration were basically gone. These would include all hotels between the Hyatt Regency (at the tip) down to the Melia Turquesa ( which had sustained some erosion damage at their patio pool area.) Maybe a year later the sand is back, maybe not.

Just a warning, publicity pictures are deceptive. The hotels south of the Sheration still had nice sandy beaches.

Anyone planning on visiting the Cancun area should consider staying to the south where it's not so crowded. There's plenty of beautiful beaches, great restaurants and places to stay. We stayed in Akumal at Casa Del Mar and are planning a return trip. Their url is http://www.casadelmarmex.com

Our freinds stayed at Playa Paraiso and really enjoyed their stay as well. I have stayed at the Sun Palace and absolutely loved it. The rooms are fabulous - each room is a suite - very spacious. The staff were very friendly. It is located on the south end of the strip. You stay at one Palace and can enjoy the amenities at all four Palace hotels. The only not so fantastic thing about the hotel is that the pool is on the smaller side and with the style of the hotel, there was a lot of shade during prime sunning hours around the pool.

We have been to Mexico five times and never had a problem with using a birth certificate with a raised seal and a driver's license. This year we went out and got the passport just for the ease of it all. Plus now, we can have the passport stamped with all of the wonderful places we visit.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail.
FIESTA AMERICAN CONDESA. They have the biggest pool in Cancun with ocean view rooms. Excellent for children! Great hotel food and service.

Enjoy!

I went to Cancun last April and we stayed at the Sheraton. Loved the hotel. Rooms were nothing to write home about, but who goes to Cancun to sit in their room! It was clean and the grounds were beautiful. The hotel has a great open grill restaurant on a big porch on the beach.

We got a rate of $99.00 per night through Travelocity.

Best-

Kate

If you are going with a family with children, go Crown Paradise. Have only heard very good things about this hotel. It has great rooms, all of which are ocean view, many, many childrens activities, all supervised to keep your kids having a blast all day, adults only pool and bar and much much more. There seems to be plenty for both adults and children. The food is supposed to be very good also. We are planning to go there in February with our 9 year old daughter. We have been to Cancun 2 other times but
did not go all inclusive because we did not take our daughter then. I would not go all inclusive except with children. There are so many wonderful places to eat in Cancun. Also most hotels have very nice beaches. Hyatt Regency has no beach nor does the Krystal. Hyatt Cancun Caribe has minimal beach but the other hotels have ample beach. Good luck.
