Can we keep the Caribbean Forum to strictly Caribbean?
 

Just to keep things in perspective, if people are asking or talking about the Caribbean and asking for recommendations on a Caribbean island, could we keep the topic strictly Caribbean? I've seen so many posts recently when somebody is asking for a Caribbean island and the answer is Maui or Kauai.?! Maybe they can move over to the Hawaiian forum --- but let's keep this just the Caribbean...just to keep everything in perspective. Thanks!

I don't think redmaria is out of line -- just trying to keep things orderly-- I do agree that people come to the Caribbean forum seeking information about the Caribbean... or else why have specific forums at all?

It is just nice to sometimes through that out there when someone is unsure of where to go.:)

Why put form over substance? If someone asks an opinion and an informed person believes that a better choice is somewhere other than the Caribbean, then what is the harm in suggesting it? Would you prefer that the poster say that they know of a great location that would answer their every need but they need to look in the Hawaii forum for the post? That's just silly.

Does that mean we can't talk about the Bahamas? Bermuda? They're not in the Caribbean either...

lol !!! good one !! Of course this is the Caribbean forum , but sometimes in the course of a certain thread ,due to "whatever" reasons , a different destination "suggestion" might pop up ..... Hard to censor something like that ? Someone could give a list of criteria and we would suggest the closest match in the Caribbean , but no harm in letting them know such and such place would meet their needs even more .....??? i.e. question ; " Looking for someplace where there are no highrises , rainforest , lots of nature , and secluded beaches , lots of local culture ...? " we could answer ; Grenada , Nevis , Tobago , St.Lucia etc. , but Costa Rica could also be a great place for you .... " I do get the gist of your post , it is easier to honor in some ways than in others . Guess no harm in u mentioning ! Faith

This is a logically layed out bulletin board, as most are, where obviously with regard to travel geographical separation works best. HOWEVER, to completely confine discussions to these boundaries 100% is not only impossible but unrealistic.

There are times when people are looking for a great place to go, think it might be in the Caribbean, but perhaps not and to have someone suggest that perfect place is what these boards are ultimately for, to share travel information.

Now with nothing wrong with sharing initial information about destinations outside the scope of the Caribbean, continued discussions should be taken to the appropriate board.

Keep in mind also people do get caught up in a discussion and may not think to move it, as happens with many newbies or those who don't frequent the board that often. Does it really matter? Can't one just choose not to read a particular thread? Its not like this Caribbean board is super high volume, I don't think I've ever had to click next 50 to get the entire past week's discussions.

Sure, we can keep it confined to the Caribbean as soon as everybody stops exchanging personal greetings, recipes, etc., on threads.

Please don't even think about encouraging any self-appointed "organizers"..there is already one on the Europe board whom some of us wish would MOVE to the Caribbean and stay there.

Christie: If you like coffee do a google search for: kopi luwak. Its the most expensive and rarest coffee in the world. It is grown in Indonesia and goes for, are you sitting? $500.00 per pound. Thats right. $500.00. How it's, ah shall be say processed (:S-) I guarantee will be interesting to you. :-) Check it out.
