Can only afford 5 daus @cap juluca.Where else the other 4 days on Anguilla?

We are hoping to go to Cap Juluca in March for 5 days and need more reasonably priced accommadations for the other 4 days. Any suggestions? We are wondering if we need to rent a car for the entire stay? Is there enough to see in the Island to justify a car for the whole length of stay. Thanks in advance for your help.

CuisinArt is very nice and less expensive than Cap.
I would suggest a car for most of my stay as taxis are very expensive and the restaurants and sights on the island are very spread out. We had one for most of the 2 weeks we were there.
It was expensive, but much less than cab fare. There's not a whole lot of sightseeing to be done other than the beautiful beaches, but it's nice to be able to come and go when you want.

I recommend you rent a car for some of the time, they charge approx $45 per day for a little jeep. Taxis gets expensive and with a car you have the freedom to explore other beaches at your own pace.

Could you be a bit more specific wrt "more resonably priced", difficult to suggest without knowing your price bracket.

Recommend looking at Frangipani on Meads Bay--www.frangipani.ai. If you just want a room suggest room 5C--If you want a small suite recommend the junior suite 7A which has a kitchen. Also look at Carimar which has suites with kitchens.-www.carimar.com Also on Meads bay. Beachfront buildings are 1 and 6. At Shoal Bay East recommend Shoal Bay Beach Hotel. www.shoalbaybeach.com The deluxe beachfront suites are very nice and have kitchens
I recommend a car to sightsee and go out to dinner. Great restaurants on Anguilla. You can get a car thru Carib Rent a Car for $215/week plus $20 for an Anguilla drivers license. Think you can reserve one by calling 1-800-532-8536 which is the Frangipani toll free #. If you have any other questions feel free to E-mail me

Thanks for the input. To O.T., I was looking at more along the 350.00 to 400.00 range as opposed to Caps 745.00 a night. Thanks again

Shari--The places I suggested are well within your range

cocolobo has reopened with new management. they have some very nice reopening rates. you might want to check further into the property, the changes they've made and the fact that it no longer is all inclusive.

Hi Shari-
You will love your vacation in Anguilla! I completely disagree with Howard, however as to Shoal BAy Beach Hotel being"vey nice". I do wonder when he was there last. We were in April 2002 and had the most expensive beachfront accomodations and were very disappointed, they need renovations. The beach is outstanding, simply beautiful. Also, from Cap to that?please. We also stayed at Cusinart, more towards cj league,in 2000 we stayed at La Sirena, which we enjoyed. We were not right on the beach, although Meads is a short walk and so pretty too. If you get any rain, as we did this year, will will have nothing at all to do At SBBH, as there is nothing else to offer there but the beach and pool. Hope this helps. We have been at the CJ property and ate there and plan to stay there probably next year. It was closed in 2000 for renovations and we could not swing it this year, We also wanted to view sunset from our room on gorgeous Shoal Bay Beach. Good luck and you will love the beaches and the food there.

Thanks everyone for your help. Now if only the airfare would go down a little.

if I had to switch I would aim for a very different experience rather than paying the higher prices at CuisinArt which is a wannabe. Disappointing ambience and accomodations but nice spa. At least at some of the other places, they don't even aspire to be luxury so you don't expect that.

Hi Shari!
We stayed at a lovely place called the Carimar Beach Club on Meads Bay. They are actually like apartments, with fully stocked kitchens, dining area, one or two bedrooms, etc. I thought they were very reasonably priced and you can save a few dollars by preparing meals yourself. We ate breakfast in the room, and a couple of dinners. We rented a car for three days and thought that was enough time. There are some spectacular beaches that you cannot reach unless you drive yourself, so do not miss them. Carimar does not have a restaurant, but there are some very nice ones within walking distance. Don't miss Altamer! Wonderful dining experience. Have a wonderful trip.

You gotta be kidding. $745? Is this for a night or for the 5 days? If that is the daily rate, what is so special about it? Is this a normal budget to spend on hotel accomodations?
