Breezes Runaway Bay Jamaica...Big Problems Man!!!

We posted the below review on Yahoo Travel on 6/18/06 and it mysteriously disappeared on 6/21.

We are seasoned travellers and must say that the trip to this resort was the worst we have ever experienced.

The nightmare started with a 2 hour bus ride from the airport to the resort with a drug buying stop along the way. The drug use was prevalent at the resort, especially among the employees. The resort security just stood by and watched as dealers came across the beach property line to sell their drugs to the guests.

The rooms were dirty, moldy and the air conditioning and plumbing never worked properly for the six days we were there. The bed sheets were stained and dirty dishes were left in the room. As a result, the room was infested with bugs and ants.

At this advertised, "no tipping resort", with few exceptions, the staff was arrogant, rude and made it clear that tips were expected. The staff acted like it was an imposition to get a drink or cup of coffee-Yet everyone had their hand out!

The food quality was horrendous! The food on the ourside buffet was mostly inedible. Breezes has only one indoor restuarant on the property and, after fighting the birds and flies all day, the staff made it as difficult as possible to get reservations into it. That food was a little better, but I would have to rate it fair, at best.

The facility itself is VERY rundown and in desperate need of renovation planned for this August. While we were there, the Internet service was down, the video games were mostly inoperable and we encountered a large RAT running through the hallways.

The original purpose of our trip was to enjoy the resort and golf club with our three sons, ages 25, 22 and 15. In the interium, we decided to get married and thought Jamaica would be an ideal location. What a mistake that was!

The wedding coordinator was "less than helpful" from the very first phone call from the States. There was no communication from her(or anyone else at Breezes) until the day before the wedding-when WE initiated the contact. When the coordinator realized that she wasn't going to be able to "upsell" us, she got even nastier. During the "reception", she barked orders and made us feel very uncomfortable. We spoke with four other couples who were married at the resort while we were there and they all had the same opinion of the supposed "coordinator".

Don't believe Breezes when they tell you not to bring cash to this resort. They want cash(not credit cards) for golfing, excursions and, don't forget, TIPS. The pro shop DEMANDED cash for the caddies even though, according to the assistant manager at the resort, credit cards were accepted. It cost approximately $120.00 per day for the four of us to play golf (caddy fees and tips)- It was a battle EVERYTIME we paid with a credit card.

Even after this facility is updated, Breezes at Runaway Bay would still be a poor choice to vacation due to the poor attitude of the staff.

Is this "Sputnik" using a different name? If not then its his kindred spirit. I hope Fodors deletes this or at least blocks further replies.
