Boston to Caribbean - need advice!
I have a meeting in Boson in early April and am considering adding several days in late March to the trip and flying to the Caribbean. Haven't been there in years now that I live on the the west coast (San Francisco). Would want a some place I can get to non-stop that is easy enough to navigate and not too pricey. It will be a short trip and I would like some low key beach and reading time and don't want a complicated venture. Do not need night life or glitz either.
And advice? Sound reasonable? My knowledge of the islands is limited but with a little direction I could marshall my travel resources!

non-stops to the islands from boston is almost non-existent. you can fly to cancun non-stop. is it possible for you to fly to jfk from san francisco? more options from there..
st. thomas is easy to navigate although not the most laid back island. if you could book secret harbour, i'd consider it.
provo in turks & caicos is very quiet. gorgeous beach with plenty of hotels directly on it. quite a few very good dining options. also very easy to get around and safe. most of the hotels are condo style, with porches or balconies. most have a restaurant on site. i'd need to know your budget & style preference to recommend a specific hotel.

Good morning,
You can fly non-stop to San Juan, PR. From there it's an easy hop or ferry to the island of Culebra. Check out http://culebrablog.com for more info. including photos, video, & more. Culebra is a laid back island, sort of like St. John's but 20 years ago. There are beautiful, white sand beaches & turquoise waters. No big hotels or night life, but small guesthouses & little, fun & funky restaurants.
Good luck!

there is a once a week direct flight to Provo on us air - delta and jet blue fly to bermuda direct - though early april will not be beach weather there - american flies direct to miami and then connects to anywhere in caribbean or drive out to key west - and as a previous poster said there's always a direct flight to cancun and then you could get a ferry to isla mujeres - which might be what you are looking for - check out : www.hotelsecreto.com

Many flights to the Caribbean from Boston go through San Juan so obviously that is an option. Also, American offers a once daily non-stop to and from Aruba. Aruba is not too expensive with many good options: low-key Eagle Beach or busy Palm Beach. You can also get a direct flight to, but not non-stop from, St. Thomas.

As noted, non-stops to the Caribbean from Boston are very thin on the ground.
If you are coming from SFO, suggest using AA.
Fly SFO to BOS, then you can route on AA via Miami very easily to one of the non-stop destinations that has excellent AA service from Miami.
To be honest, with schedule cuts that number is shrinking, but Cayman has excellent connections on AA (as well as Cayman Airways) in Miami, and is only a one hour flight from MIA.
After your Caribbean jaunt, simply route back to MIA and connect on a non-stop to SFO. If you go AA straight through, it smoothes the process (with baggage and boarding passes), and IMHO Miami customs is nowhere near as bad as legend makes out

Delta flies daily non-stop to Bermuda - it won't yet be tourist season, so you should be able to find more reasonable accomodations. The weather won't be beachy-warm, either, but it should be nice enough by then to explore and hang out. Oh, I just went back and noticed wsm2004 mentioned Bermuda, too!! We've got an excellent public transportation system here - it would be easy to see the island!
