Bonaire and snorkeling

Considering Bonaire for a 1-week trip in early May of this year. We just got back from BVI, but it was so windy so much of the time that we ended up with some minor snorkeling disappointment :( We're hoping that this could make up for it!

Several questions:

1. Best way to get to Bonaire from New York area.

2. Most comfortable and convenient place to stay for snorkeling day-trips.

3. Snorkeling tips: operators, locations (anything right off the beach?), your own personal highlights...

4. Anything else about Bonaire, as a destination, that you think would be helpful for planning.

Thanks - I always value the input from people here!

I know exactly how you feel about the wind. We returned from St. John last Sunday and the wind definitely put a dent in our snorkeling activities.

Bonaire-tons of sites for beach entry. Not the easiest place to get to but may be better from NY.

Try this site for Bonaire info:

Its very easy to fly to Aruba and then take Dutch Antilles Express.

I visited Bonaire in April, and went snorkeling with Renee:

She knows the best spots, and is especially useful on your first day snorkeling.

I was unable to get a room at Captain Don's, but that's where I will stay next time -- perfectly located for snorkeling

I have been to a lot of Caribbean islands, and Bonaire is one of my favorites (contrast it to Aruba, one of its neighbors, which is probably my least favorite).

Continental offers a non-stop from Newark once a week. The flight times are not great. Departures are close to midnight on Saturdays. Returns are early early morning on Sundays (I think 5 or 6am).
I believe that's the only non-stop you can get from NY area. Other airlines/airports would require a stop somewhere. I live in NJ and have spent some time looking into it.

Thanks. Anyone familiar with Harbor Village vs. Deep Blue View?
