First: I have never stayed at Bolongo beach but when we were on St Thomas the end of August we stopped in for lunch at their beachside restaurant. We had a great experience. The food was very good, the waitress and all the staff were very friendly and helpful and the grounds were gorgeous. The beach was deserted and so was the pool area.Very nice in pool bar too!
So we decided we would like to stay there on our next trip to St Thomas. Only thing is I went to Trip Advisor.com
and most of the reviews stated that the rooms need updating really bad.
So I searched some more and found the Secret Harbor Beach Resort on St Thomas to be a better choice. And the rates are the same.
Definitely go to tripadvisor.com and check out the reviews on both these hotels.
We have decided to stay at Secret Harbor instead.

I f you are staying at Bolongo for just a short amount of time - as I think you may be - do take the time to do it. Secret Harbour is an awesome resort and it is quiet and sweet, but if you want to have a night or two of true Caribbean fun, do the Bolongo experience. The main restaurant is closed for a month, but Iggie's (which has been named the best beach bar & bar food for many years) is just downright fun and the people are so friendly and warm.
Secret Harbor has a good restaurant & fun small bar , no doubt. And the water there is just beautiful. Snorkeling, too!
It's just your preference in rather wild & crazy & romantic or subdued & romantic!
Whatever you choose, you won't go wrong.

Hi - Thanks for your feedback - I need a reasonably priced hotel for 3 days after a Windjammer cruise and I want to have a clean, safe and fun place to stay. Thanks for your recommendations :-)

The Bolongo Beach club is a good place, Another good place is the LIMETREE RESORT. They have a karaoke party on Friday nights that is one of the best parties on the island, plus it ids a good place and good prices/ Hope this helps.

Hi,

I realize this response comes too late for your trip, dolphin117, but it might help others.

I stayed at Bolongo Bay last year, and it was great. It actually started to feel like home after a while. I liked it so much that the following week, I went back -- and they gave me a discount because I was a returning customer. When you arrive, you instantly get a complimentary rum punch.

The staff are very friendly and helpful.

The bay itself is great, and I saw a sea turtle and a stingray while snorkeling right there just steps away from my room. The resort fee covers the use of a sea kayak, snorkeling equipment, etc. so you can play in the water all you want.

Izzy's open-air restaurant, which is part of the resort, was a great place for casual lunch, dinner and drinks just steps away; there is another restaurant there that was too $$$ for me for dinner, but I did eat there once for breakfast. Overall, the food is good. (Bolongo might have an optional all-inclusive plan to look into.)

If you want to arrange a day trip to Tortola or other islands, you can do that right there at the resort. (Just make sure to do it before 5 pm, when the gift shop/tour desk closes.) There is always someone at the front door waiting to take you somewhere or to get you a taxi to go into town -- either Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook, which are almost the same distance away.

The resort is nicely landscaped, and amusing iguanas are everywhere.

On the down side, the rooms (I stayed in two) appear to be in need of some minor maintenance, but they are comfortable and spacious. When you have the beautiful beach and bay out your back door, a little crack in the bathroom counter or a chip on the tile floor doesn't really matter, does it?!

If you are going to St. Thomas, Bolongo Bay is a great place to stay.

Whoops, I think that was Iggy's restaurant, not Izzy's.
