Bob Marley

We are cruising to Ocho Rios, Jamaica in Nov. I've been researching the port & saw info. about Bob Marley's body being exhumed & moved to Ethiopia. Does anyone know when this is supposed to happen? Our son is looking forward to the Bob Marley tour. I want to know what to expect. Thanks

Won't happen, can't happen!

Care to elaborate? Thanks again

A case of 'politrix'. Purportedly, Rita Marley, his widow, has been pressing the government to annoint Bob a national hero, a title yet to be bestowed. This past spring she announced, then recanted, the exhumation and move to Ethiopia. Which will never ever happen in Jamaica. The museum tour, imho, is a disappointment to all but rabid Marley fans, but the trip up thru Browns Town (a country market town) and then to 9 mile is still a good one, esp.for your son.
Don't take the cruiseship put-together trip -- get a guide (Carolyn Barrett, for one at barrettadventures.com) who can jump the queus, take you beyond the expected in a private a/c van rathern a cruiseshipper bus.

Thanks for the explanation. I wouldn't call my son a Marley fanatic, but a music fan in general. He's interested in anything concerning the history of music, & thinks Marley was talented. Will the private tour take us to all sites associated with Marley? We'd also like to visit Dunn's River Falls. We are scheduled to be there from 8am to 5pm. Should we have time for both? I'll check out the recommended website now. Thanks

Talk to Carolyn directly at 1.876.382.6384/she takes many cruiseshippers touring and can help you plan out what do-able without racing around in your time frame. Pick up the latest copy of the U.S. music magazine called THE BEAT as a surprise for your son -- it's coverstory is Marley, updated.

Great tip! I'll pick one up. Thanks :-)

THE BEAT newest issue with cover story on DANCEHALL 2005 is just out so I'd look for the PREVIOUS issue with Marley cover story as well...

Thanks once again for the info. :-) BTW, do you happen to know what Barrett Adventures deposit/payment policy is. I included that question to them in an email I sent, but they neglected to clarify that. Thanks

I've hired the Barretts twice and just paid in person. Don't know if that has changed, last time was 2003.

I know Carolyn accepts US/JA cash, trav.cheques and credit cards via
PayPal but don't know her deposit requirements, if any. Guests normally pay her on the spot, after arranging where they want to go and a price.
