Biras Creek in January
 

I looked up rates for Biras Creek and this is what I found:
Dec 20- Jan 2: $940 nt
Jan 3- Jan 24: $515 nt
Jan 25- march: $840 nt

I would like to go in Jan when the rates are much lower, but am wondering why the huge price difference? I realize Dec 20-Jan 2 is so expensive due to the holidays, but any idea why the price drops so much in Jan?

I checked the weather and it does not seem any different than the other dates. This is high season at other similar resorts.

I am not looking for a reason not to go to Biras Creek- I am very excited to book this trip as I have read wonderful reviews, but if anyone has a reason this Jan time period would not be a good time to visit please advise, thanks!

Any other advise regarding Biras Creek is appreciated too!

There's always a lull in travel to the Caribbean just after the holidays, though many resorts now don't lower rates so much for Martin Luther King weekend since people have it off in a lot of places. The price drop has nothing to do with weather, though there can be some wind in January.

I will be traveling over Martin Luther King holiday, but it is not impacting airfare or resort rate so I think I am good.

Having been to Biras creek, Bitter End and Little Dix the most desirable is Little Dix but 20% more $. The Bitter End is shop-worn, in my opinion.
The weather should be fine but a day of rain can happen in Dec-Feb. March-May are the ideal times in terms of weather.

I am not sure how reliable this rating system is, but I checked the world's best list from travel and leisure magazine 2005 and they had biras creek rated much higher on the list than little dix. I have heard great things about both resorts (not as many regarding bitter end as you mentioned)so if I can save some $ I think Biras Creek will be perfect.
A little rain should not be a problem!

SC- yes I would do Biras! Its a wonderful place.Its more secluded that LDB and its so beautiful. I think you will really enjoy it. Yes, I normally see it rated higher than LDB. Plus it has a limited number of guests which is really nice. LDB gets a lot of outside people for lunch and dinner and beach...Biras you can come and eat but they do not get as many people.

I made my reservation at Biras and booked my airfare so it is now a done deal!

A few questions:
I have never vacationed before at a resort where gratuity is already included (10%). Is it common at Biras to leave an extra tip for waiters, bartenders, housekeeping anyway? (assuming service is good...)

Also, Biras offers several excursions- any feedback on if they are worth doing?
Price of these trips?

Shabby - Thats great! You will have a wonderful time. I would leave something extra if someone does a great job as the included grat. is not that much. Get envelopes from the front desk and write the staff members name and give to them personally - just dont wait until the very last minute. (assuming that it is not a lot of people as that would be a lot of $ and work) But for the housekeeper, you may have the same one everyday, depending upon their schedule. I would ask the front desk when you check in about their current grat. policies, most places say feel free if you feel like exceptional service was performed, etc.

For the trips -
We always do stuff on our own when we vacation as its normally less expensive.
You HAVE to go to the Baths. But you could easily do that on your own. Norman island is fantastic if you like to snorkel, TONS of fish. A day sail to Anegada would be great! Just make sure you stop on the beach and have a lobster lunch. :)

I am not familiar with these islands, but I have many long cold months to research....

We will have access to a boston whaler so I think we can get around fine on our own. A special sailing trip may be worth doing as a paid trip though- I have not sailed in years & could not guarantee I would not sail us out to sea!

Yes the sailing trip I would do as a pre-paid deal. Anegada is only for very experienced sailors as many ships have sunk there. There is coral all around the island. Biras does arrange trips and I am sure they could set you up with lunch reservations maybe at the Anegada Reef Hotel for lobster lunch. Sounds like a wonderful day to me!

The whaler does sound like fun! I am looking foward to the many included amenities as the whaler, sunfish, lazers, & kayaks. We like to be active for at least half of the day, but coming from NYC we also will need alot of doing nothing time!

No bother at all. Virgin Gorda is one of my favorite places! I love it there so much.

I am sure you will get a lot of nothing time as well! That is so important on vacation. I think many people try to pack to many activities in and not anytime for just relaxing :)

Yes, sometimes lifting a cocktail at the beach is the most activity you want on vacation :)

If the savings is significant then Biras Creek vs. Little Dix it should be. I only stayed at Biras once 2 years ago and liked it but I found the food better on several visits to LDB.
A negative of LDB is I have never been there when kids were not present in large numbers.We give LDB 5 beachfront room numbers and if they cannot accommodate us we don't go.
A day trip with snorkeling to Anegada is about $80/person with a lobster lunch and worth every penny. You can fly there as well on a puddle-jumper for a little more. Enjoy.

We are planning to go to Biras creek next May. Where did you find the best rates? We are coming from the Uk, so have a hefty airfare on top, so any places where good rates can be obtained are welcome!

I booked directly through Biras, but you can try expedia, orbitz, or another travel discounter website.
Maybe a local travel agent can help as well?
