Better to stay in Old San Juan or on the beach??

Jump to last reply

I will be taking my teenage daughter with me to Puerto Rico and we love the beach. I also know I enjoy shops and cafes and the old world feeling very much. Does it make more sense to stay on the beach and commute to Old San Juan for dinner or walking around? Or should we stay in Old San Juan and commute to the beach?
We have never been to Puerto Rico and I am trying to get a grasp of areas and a good location for us. I'm interested in doing a day trip as well. Would anyone recommend a day trip to another beach? Another island?
We are going late July.

Thank you for any suggestions!!
