Getting there is not the problem, getting back into the US is a bigger problem. Please do some additional research. US immigration is very strict about this, and there can be a huge fine. I know there are ways around it, just be sure you are prepared. I believe there are companies in Florida who do all the planning, paperwork and travel for you.
Check into it.
Try Tico Travel
Ft.Lauderdale,Florida 800-493-8426

Mith: Americans cannot legally travel to Cuba.
truth: US laws can prevent you from engaging in gainful activity in cuba, but cannot stop you from traveling to Cuba. look into it. as a free citizen if you can find your way to Cuba, say from Mexico city, and find your way back, you are OK.

You guys are nuts. If you are an American you are supposed to be free. That's what I am and I went. It's great.
Go to Nassau buy a ticket from a travel agent in Nassau, then go. When you get there do NOT have your passport stamped. They will stamp a piece of paper for you, keep it, you need to give it back when you leave. Do not use your passport when you enter Nassau. Use your drivers license. Nassau will stamp your psssport when you return from Cuba and you do not want two stamps entering Nassau and nothing in between. Have a great time . It is a fabulous place. Never compromise your freedom- always question authority.

Mary, you go at your own risk! The USA does not recommend this island for its citizens. You risk having your passport marked and you may be questioned or detained temporarily. Remember Cuba is a communist country. If any legal problems arise during your visit there, you'll be on your own. Cuba is a poverty stricken country with government controlled censorship.

Mary - Also go to <http://www.fodors.com/miniguides/mgresults.cfm?destination=havana@170&cur_section=t ra>

It is legal for Americans to go to Cuba. It is illegal to spend any money there. Since that is almost impossible, most everyone who goes there does so illegally. It is illegal to go just as a tourist and spend money, although there have been only a few prosecutions.

To go there legally and spend money, you have to have a reason -such as on an educational, humanitarian, religious, or diplomatic mission. To do this, you have to have a licence from the US Treasury. If you have your passport stamped, then you have to show this license every time you enter the US.
