best snorkeling?
 

I have seen much information about Antigua resorts, but nothing much about the snorkeling off the beaches of Pineapple Beach Club or Sandals Antigua. <BR> <BR>Also, how does it compare with snorkeling in St. Lucia? <BR> <BR>As our "perfect" vacation consists of much snorkeling for my husband, and a good beach for me, I'm interested in where he'll be happy! <BR> <BR>Thanks...any information will be greatly appreciated!

When in Antigua, heard many express disappointment with the snorkling ... we did not snorkle there but I have found the most enjoyable snorkling in the BVI's.

Lis, I don't know if you have set your mind on those islands in particular, but you may want to consider the Cayman Islands. Most folks know that I'm a big fan of the Caymans. I also have a commercial website that features the Caymans at www.tropicalretreats.com <BR>But all that aside, there is a good reason for my enthusiasm. The Caymans are know as one of the best dive spots in the world. But what most people don't know is that it is heaven for the snorklers. Lot's of shallow reefs and wrecks. That's right - wreck diving with a snorkle! Super sea life. Look in the diving photo gallery for the picture of my son and I 'petting' a wild Atlantic Stingray, or the young lady carressing a huge moray eel, one of the most feared sea animals. Most of the really great reefs are just a few hundred feet from shore. At Smith's Cove you just slip in, and you're there. Give him a treat. Good Luck Cameron

Cozumel is a great place for snorkeling. My husband and I have traveled there with out sons twice and have not been dissapointed. We stayed at the Allegro Resort and while the snorkeling is not great off the beach at the resort, a very short boat ride brings you to a fabulous reef. Plus the island feels safe and you can take a ferry to the mainland. Good luck

Lis, <BR> <BR>We just returned from Antigua and tried snorkeling at several of the beaches on the island. In fact, we spent an afternoon at the Pineapple Beach Club's beach area. The snorkeling is o.k. there, however, a better spot is off the beach at the Royal Antiguan Resort. We have also been to St. Lucia and the snorkeling is better in Antigua. However, I totally agree with Cameron's reply about the Cayman Islands. The snorkeling is by far the BEST there in comparing many of the other islands! Good luck.

Message: Kim, <BR>My husband and I are going to Antigua the beginning of December, and we'll be staying at a timeshare on Dickenson Bay. I would be very interested in your recommendations for places to snorkel and also some great beaches. Some other messages have mentioned going snorkeling at a certain hotel (Pineapple Beach Club) - are you able to use the beach facilities of a hotel where you aren't staying? Any other suggestions for our week are welcome.

We went to Virgin Gorda this summer and the snorkeling around the Baths and Savannah Bay was outstanding. You can snorkel right off the beach area. Also, a couple of years ago I went to Playa De Carmen in Mexico and went on a group snorkel trip and we went to some lagoons and the snorkeling was super there also. <BR>Have fun!

Snorkeling is one of our vaca requirements! Snorkeled many places! Grand Caymen was the absolute very best with LOTS of fish. Cozumel fantastic (summertime); Hawaii pretty good; The Baths on Virgin Gorda as stated above was VERY good, @ St. John-Caneel Bay-was there this early Aug.; Caleta Xel-Ha south of Cancun (west of Cozumel) was fabulous; areas in Bahamas great. A secluded beach on Grenada was prob. the very best ever. St. Martin was good sev. yrs ago also-many angel fish. Most of all, have to have easy access to the beaches, and without bunches of tourists. <BR>The Snorkel'n Fool

What about Bonaire? I have heard that they not only have the best diving, but also the best snorkeling.

For the past 3 years, I have gone to Cozumel. Loved it! We stayed on the south end...The Reef Club...Club Isla. <BR>We rented a Catamarran...$40. per person and went to Palancar Reef. <BR>Chankanaab Lagoon is also a wonderful <BR>location for snorkelling. <BR>E-mail if you have questions. <BR>Good Luck.
