Best restaurants on Grand Cayman
Hi. Would like some info. on restaurants on Grand Cayman.

Which restaurant has the best food?

Which restaurant has the best setting?
|
For best food, I'll give you our top 3 choices in order of our favorites first:
1) The Reef Grill - Their signature Chilean Sea Bass is a meal not to be missed.
2) Smuggler's Cove - Again, their signature dish of Lobster stuffed filet was outstanding. The jerk duck appetizer was also incredible.
3) Calypso Grill - Their grilled Mahi Mahi was excellent, but they serve a fishcake appetizer that is to die for.

For best setting, it's a tough choice as so many are located directly on the water. Smuggler's is directly on the water, and very romantic setting. The Wharf is beautiful, but you'll get mixed reviews on the food....we liked it, but the first two I mentioned as our favorites were better. Pappagallos is a very interesting setting, very tropical atmosphere, and the food was very good. Crows Nest, Naked Fish, are a couple others right on the water that were both very good, both a bit more casual. You also might want to try a place called the Edge for lunch. This is in Boddentown, and located right on the beach....very cool.

All of the restaurants have premium food, but we think Casanova's offered the best. The settings of the restaurants are all unique, but we liked the design of the Grand Old House. Lots of outdoor tables and it was easy to see why they do so many special events there. It's a place where you can dress up a little more. The service is great.

Just got back. Have to agree with Scott on Smugglers Cove, and Trish, I too loved Casanovas, which is next door to Smugglers.
|
definitely go to Papagallo's- its about a 20 minute drive from Seven Mile beach- delicious food, awesome & friendly service- its my favorite rest. on the island.

Good luck!

The Lighthouse in Breakers is one of my favorite restaurants on Grand Cayman. Really good food and beautiful setting right on the ocean. They just opened a new area where your sitting outside, right over the water. In the evening when the tiki torches are lit, and your watching the waves roll in right underneath you and watching the sun set, very romantic!!
Sandy

I second a vote for the Lighthouse...also the Grand Old House is very nice...

None of the restaurants on GC are excellent the way restaurants in Chicago or New York are...they are just priced the same! The food on GC is good but pretty basic stuff.

Got got back last week: Here are our favorites:
Reef Grille: ! Try the Sea Bass, Grouper and Coconut Cheesecake !!!

The Lighthouse: The wahoo was excellent. Great food and excellent wine list and view!

Ristorante Papagallo: Mahi Mahi was awesome! Try the desserts too!

Cracked Conch by the Sea: Nice view and food is good. Nice place to go w/ a family. They make a mean conch fritter!

Have a great time. But don't miss going to the Reef Grill. It's a must! We loved it so much went back another night! Also heard from some of the locals that the Naked fish is good too. Didn't make it. Have to save some for the next trip!

Restaurants we enjoyed on Grand Cayman:

Lighthouse (south shore)
Portofinos (east end)
Pappagallos (west end)
Lantana (7MB)
Almond Tree (7MB)
The Edge - (south shore) - very casual and inexpensive; a great place for lunch
Cracked Conch - (north end of 7MB)- very casual; great for lunch

They all have great settings right on the water (although I don't recall that Lantanas was on the water) with great food.

I think you should add in

Regazzi (great Italian)
Calypso Grill
|
Yes I vote for Regazzi's also. We just got bk. frm. GC Had a terrific meal w/very good service there. Menu was really varied- our two teens loved their pizza, and we had fantastic fish and veal. Italians run this restaurant! We loved their suggestions. The seasonings were subtle and appropriate. <We had condo and w/2 teens and one enterring college we dont spend our $ as much on dining out. Ate great in condo- I didnt mind cooking w/ a heavenly view frm our Discovery Point condo of the turquiose water and beach. We froze and brought rib eye steaks frm the States, and flank steak and chicken breasts...and used the GAS grills! It was great!> Food was more reasonably priced @ Regazzi's than Pappagallos. We took a drive to Pappa.'s during middle of day (they dont serve lunch) and a man there was so friendly and showed us the iguanas and birds but we found it extremely odiferous (in an unpleasant way) - the water in fountain smelled bad etc. But in all fairness the place was closed and fans not running and "air" not turned on I think . I have only heard good things abt. Pappas tho we had bad timing and so were turned off to it. The setting at Reg. is just a shopping plaza...and much more tropical @ Papp.'s It was the food we remembered and what was more important to us.
