Best place & price in Jamaica please?

My 26 year old daughter would like to go to Negril the end of December for a few days of rest and relaxation and FUN in the sun! She'll be travelling with a friend and both of them work hard and don't have a ton of cash to spend. Can someone suggest where they can stay. If an all inclusive is doable or even desirable for that age single women? And, how about Negril. Good choice or is there somewhere better for them? Any help is appreciated.

All-inclusive is NEVER desirable.

Hey Liz!

Liz is the best reference source for that question. Just keep bringing it to the top til she should also post the question over at in the Westside Wanderings forum.

Learning is half the fun.

Since your daughter would like to visit Negril, I would recommend her visiting

For a few days just to relaz - AI may be desireable (this is from one who have done both and prefer non AI).

Have to disagree with atticus on the AI thing. If you like to eat 3 meals a day, drink, and participate in snorkeling, scuba, waterskiing and a lot of activities it prices out well at some places. When you do not go AI (which is fun also) those things really can add up fast.

Going non-AI instantly provides a great relaxing trip where you can walk around, see differnt places and choose to eat wherever you want. But if the original poster really wants fun in the sun, it would be a good idea to price everything out prior to committing to a certain place.

atticus, you're funny

Ai or non-AI (as well as hotel choice within those categories) depends on her budget, what she plans to do, whether she is adventurous at all (meaning she enjoys the unexpected...finding new places to eat each day, etc).

Does she need AC, TV, phone, swimming pool? Beach or cliffs or across from either to save $? What is her comfort level with traveling to new places?

(I'll be in Taiwan for 10 days starting tomorrow so may not get back here but if you can provide that info I'm sure others can help out...)

I've done both AI and non and I won't go AI again - at least in Negril. Food is great and cheap in Negril and they are at the perfect age to stroll the beach trying new places and getting to know the people there. Food at even the best AIs gets boring after about a day and a half unless you just like to eat for the sake of eating. Drinks are also cheap - Red Stripes for $1 if you shop around and great blended drinks all along the beach. I don't AIs are a better deal in Negril (unless you eat extraordinary amounts of food and drink excessively - which from the looks of things, a lot of people do at AIs ) If they just want great location and clean simple rooms, there are many places to recommend like White Sands. A young crowd will be found at Fun Holiday - also reasonable. A little more upscale is Coco LaPalm, Charela. Give more details on the "must haves" for a better response.

My reply about never doing A/I was tongue-N-cheek. Liz and I have a standing difference of opinion on that issue. Just having fun. ;-)

I know trhere are lots of bad a/i places, but the two we have been too have been fabulous and I could do nothing but highly recommend the Couples Resorts-Couples Negril and Swept Away. Zero complaints and nothing but a wonderful time. We made a point to go off resort and loved the heck out of that as well.
