Best kids friendly Island to visit in August
 

Looking for a one week vacation in August. We are family of 4. Kids are 10 year and 6 year old. My parents will be traveling with us.We would like to keep it a relaxing vacation where we have water sports, activities for kids and things to do and see. I was considering Carribbean islands/Puerto Rico or any other budget friendly island for accomodation and food. We will be flying from New Jersey so have to keep flight budget in mind. Haven't been to any of the islands yet .Considering its August we would want to go to a place keeping rains, weather and hurricanes in mind. Thanks in advance

You use the word "budget" several times but you don't actually give us a dollar ranged what 'budget" you actually have thus making it difficult to make meaningful recommendations. So please let us know what your have "budgeted". It would help if you could break that down between airfare, accommodations, food and activities.

One other point, August is "hurricane season" throughout the Caribbean and even though the odds are small a major storm will be anywhere near the island your are visiting during any given week, there's always a possibility. The thing is the earliest you might know that will be a few days prior to your trip.

All that said, the more budget friendly Caribbean destinations include Cancun, Cozumel, Dominican Republic, and Belize so you might want to begin your research there.

Look into Aruba. Its typically considered out of the hurricane belt. You should be able to get a direct flight out of EWR. And price wise its middle of the road. Good mix of activities including beach, water sports, restaurants, atv and jeep tours. Its quite Americanized so may be a good fit if this is your first time to the Caribbean. You should be able to find good deals particularly for that time of the year.

Budget 5000$ including airfare. Not sure if its too less including airfare for 6 people.

I agree with the Aruba suggestion. Look at JetBlue Vacation packages that include flight from NY/NYC and hotel. They can be a good deal.
