Best islands to visit with kids?

Hello - we have 3 children between ages 7 and 12 - and are looking to visit the Virgin Islands for the first time in April. Any recommendations on the best islands with activities to keep the kids busy? They will enjoy the beach for a day, but will then be interested in going on hikes, seeing other sights, etc. We will have perhaps 5-6 days to explore the area. I was thinking possibly St Thomas and St John, but don't know much about the islands. I would very much appreciate any advice/recommendations on both the islands to visit and where to stay. Thanks in advance!!

Since 2/3's of St. John is a National Park it's perfect for hiking, swimming/snorkeling and sailing. It's much quieter and more laid back than St. Thomas. It's also more "expensive" than St. Thomas.

St. Thomas is more built up and will have more and easier access to "activities" like water sports, jet skiing, zip-lining, kayaking, catamaran tours, museums, deep sea fishing, historical sights, etc.

With 5 or 6 days consider staying on St. Thomas, since it has "more to do" but plan on taking the ferry over to St. John for a day trip (or possibly 2 day trips). that way you'll get to experience what both islands have to offer.

Sorry, but we need some idea of your budget in terms of dollars (not some nebulous term like "affordable") in order to make recommendations on best places to stay.

Since you really didn't specify what type of activities interest your family (except hiking and visiting a beach) try doing a simple google search of "Things to do on NAME OF ISLAND" - you'll find loads of helpful information. Pick those activities & points of interest that appeal to you and your family.

While St. John is perfect for relaxing, thee's more to do on St. Thomas. I'd suggest basing yourself at either Secret Harbour beach or Ritz Carlton on the east end of STT. Definitely take a full day on St. John - Cinnamon Bay is fun. Maybe another day for a boat excursion to the BVI if time and budget allows. On St. Thomas you could check out Lindquist Beach, Magens Bay (go early), Coral World, and the Virgin Islands Ecotour through the mangroves. My kids enjoyed all of the above.

I would suggest you stay on St John rather than St Thomas. Plenty to do for 5 or 6 days.
