St. John in the USVI is one of my favorites.

Bonaire has some of the best off-beach snorkeling in the Caribbean. As the OP's mentioned there's very good snorkeling around Virgin Gorda and St. John. You'll also find very good to excellent snorkeling at the Tobago Cays (in the Grenadines). Finally, many of the Bahamas Out-Islands have very good snorkeling.
