Best island as base for a week?
We are a couple about 30 and wanting a good get-away vacation. I think we have settled on BVI and will actually be going in about 6 weeks (Mid-May). We are going to try to get everything squared away this weekend.
My questions are: 1. If our interests are snorkling, laying/walking on the beach, hiking, good food, and something to do at night (we aren't big partiers/drinkers)so it can be shopping or walking in a fun part of an island, then which island is the best for our base? 2. Where to stay on that island, would want to budget around 200/night +/-? 3. Best way to get to that island (fly or ferry)? 4. Day trips to take? I've looked on the boards but I think I get more confused the more I look :) |
In the BVI's the only island that has any appreciable shopping is Tortola. It also has decent night life, good beaches, areas you can hike and plenty of restaurants. In short it has everything on your list. You can fly directly into Beef Island Airport (which is connected to Tortola by a small bridge.
Check out accomodations on Cane Garden Bay. |
The folks on this board can answer any BVI question you have.
http://www.traveltalkonline.com/foru...&Board=bvi Tortola may be the best base island. You'll want to visit the Baths on Virgin Gorda and White Bay/Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost van Dyke. Smugglers Cove is a great beach on Tortola. |
and though you are not much into the nightlife scene, check out Quito and his band fri and sat... so much (laid back ) fun...

forgot to mention, it is on Cane Garden Bay. Plenty of places to dine while there. though it can be crowded, we never found it that crowded.
