Best Insect Repellent
 

On our last trip to the Caribbean (Anguilla), I got more than 50 mosquito bites on my legs and was miserable.

What do you think is the best repellent to bring with us to Grenada in May?

(And will bring AfterBite along, just in case the repellent doesn't work 100 percent!)

deep woods off is good. don't know if it's available in your area but there is a product named Ben's - it's 100% deet, comes in tiny plastic orange bottle. you need a product with as much deet as possible.
ppl will suggest avon skin so soft - i live in maine (home of the evil blackfly) it does not work at all.
ppl will suggest deet is harmful. no research supports this rumor.
also needs to be reapplied often just like sunscreen and especially around dawn & dusk.

The product that we use most on St Martin is called 'Off', made by an American company, S.C.Johnson.

It comes in spray cans or plastic bottles in various different varieties - the best in my view is 'Clean Feel'. You just spray it on and it seems to be pretty effective.

I would imagine that it is also available in Grenada, but if not, you can no doubt purchase it in the US before you leave.

If you do that, don't forget to put it in your checked luggage, as you will not be able to take it on board a plane in your hand luggage !

Have you used that clip on thing that is supposed to repel mosquitos around you for 12 hours?

In a word "No" !

Mosquito milk saves the day. It is not able to be purchashed in the US. You should be able to get it anywhere in the Caribbean.

My favorite repellent is actually an all-natural one that works well. It's from the company called W. S. Badger and it's called Bug Balm. It comes in a push-up stick like deoderant and it's a solid base with citronella and olive oil. It feels a little heavy going on, but if you rub it in it's just fine--and a decent moisturizer to boot. I rarely get bitten by anything when I use it (I use it for no-see-ums, too, when on the beach) and I don't have to worry about the toxic effects of DEET products on my skin.
